Quick Question on LST!
    #68795 - 06/29/08 11:50 PM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys I have a question relating to my current grow (in the grow journals section) and I plan on trying my hand at some Low Stress Training this year by tying down. I've topped in the past and gained nearly 20% from the specimens I topped.  My question is that is LST even beneficial at the point in my plants life when it only has fan leaves at each node and no secondary branching yet?  Should I wait for the secondary branches to grow out before I start tying them down or will tying them down promote the secondary branches to develop???

tying them down helps the nodes branch out and make your plant bushy.

I'm wondering if they will develop faster, because they are tiny leaves at the nodes, if I tie them down will hormones be redirected to those leaves that eventually will be branches to make them grow faster than normal?

the light hitting them will do that for you.  If you give the secondaries a nice amount of light they will grow up and out towards it.

Okay Thank You!  Thats the answer I was looking for, I thought it would still work without prior branching...they are nearing a month and starting to develop branches. I think now's the time to either top or tie down or both.

you can train your plants at any point in veg, but, it's best to do it early so that your branches can thicken up and your plant bush out.  At a month old your plants secondaries will be small, especially if you're growing from seed.  Just have some patience and give them light.  In a few weeks you'll see the benefits of training your tops.

Does LST is good too for outdoor growing or another training is better for outdoor?

LST is mainly good to utilize the most light possible.

Outdoors this isn't needed, the earth rotates and the sun magically travels through the sky which makes light come from different directions throughout the day.

You still want to probably support your plants if you expect them to be massive or to protect them from the wind.

sure it's not needed, but it doesn't hurt either.  It can also help you hide your grow a bit better since you'll be keeping the plants lower to the ground.  It's pretty hard to miss a 9ft tall pot plant
