QUICK QUESTION FOR ALL GROWERS

Better option for a 2ft x 8ft closet.
2 x 400W lights stationary
600W light on a rail.
Which is better? I'd be inclined to go with the 600W for penetrational power, but the 400's might cover better

Anybody else? going to be placing an order in the next hour or two.
I'm thinking the 600W penetrates better which is nice, but the 2 x 400W have 200 extra watts which should more than compensate for the loss of penetration, plus the plants will spend more time directly under the light which is another plus.

I think all things even I would take 2x400, but the 600w would be the better buy IMO. The size and location of our rooms can always change and then we're having the same debate but 600 vs. 1000 while stuck with 400's. I guess I would take the 400's now but the 600 if I wasn't going to be in that space forever.

ok word, valid points. I suppose I should clarify real quick- This debate is specifically for this closet though, no chance of moving the light somewhere else, no chance of anything, just debating which light will give you a better yield in that particular closet. Does that change your answer in any way?
Thanks for dropping by

2x400 then, although I don't think I can change my vote now
IMO the green lady enjoys being penetrated, but she is a downright fiend for multiple light action

this. i voted 2x400w because of the reason you stated above. sure 600w's give more penetration, but rails are a pain in the ass, and i would rather have my plants spend more time directly under the light than not. but honestly, you would know more about this than i would as i've really only done outdoor, but i still think 2x400w would be better; at least, that's how i would do it. plus the whole extra 200w thing is a plus, as you said.
also, since they are only for this closet in particular and you won't be using them for anything else that's just another reason to go for the 2x400w.

2 400's. You'll have steady light coverage as well as a wider foot print. The only major advantage I can see to the 600 is that it would be easier to keep the room cool since you only have one bulb burning. But the benefits from the two 400's outweigh that IMO.

My reasoning is that two 400's can provide continuous light in your whole grow area. While the 600 on the light mover works, and the center "crossover" area is gonna create dense buds and then the otside two feet on either side is gonna be getting the light for half the time the middle will. Causing those outside couple feet(both sides) to have less dense buds. While having constant coverage of the two may not give as dense of a bud as the middle of the 600 setup, they will be overall more uniform in density, which will probably put your yield up a little more.

I voted dual 400's as well, and I agree with coda...having consistant light coverage and a greater footprint. = win imo
Have you ordered yet?

Nope, ordering tomorrow morning.
This isn't for my setup anyway, I own a custom indoor agritech installation company and sunday we start construction for a new client.
That's just a fancy way for me to say I build grow rooms for people and then charge them

Nice man. I must say I'm a bit envious of your current career choice.
Hopefully things pick up out here in Maine when dispensaries kick off. I would love get my foot in the door somehow.

I know this is off-topic, but how does he plan to access the back of such a narrow closet? 24" is barely enough room to turn around once you're in there so I imagine with 2 lamps something like SOG would be out of the question. Seems like a space suited for 6-8 trees maybe...but what are his plans if you don't mind sharing?
Just some random high thoughts, sorry to derail the thread.

No man, by all means ask as many questions as you want, hopefully you'll ask something I haven't thought of and you'll save me a huge headache later on.
But the simple answer to this question is that the closet has doors. from the doors it's only 2 feet to the back of the closet, and since the doors are 6 feet wide he can touch every wall in the entire space without ever setting foot inside the grow space.
I think you're picturing the closet a little off... shift your perception of where the door is by 90 degrees
