G13 Haze - 600W HPS - Coco/Perlite - Handwatered [Completed]
#316326 - 11/15/09 10:30 PM (15 years, 5 days ago) |
|
|
This was my 6th consecutive grow w/ G13 Haze. I'm now on my 7th generation of clones and generally feel at one with this strain. I made two major changes for this grow; ditching soil for coco and upgrading from 400 to a 600w HPS.
Specifics: 3x G13 Haze (All were topped) 600w Lumatek HPS 60/40 Coco/Perlite @ 5.8-6.0 3 Gallon Pots Handwatered
Nutrients: Canna Coco A+B BMO Flower Power (Not pictured) AN Bud Blood (1 week) AN Big Bud (5~ weeks) AN Overdrive (2~ weeks)
Plant #1: 122g (Flowered 57 Days) Plant #2: 118g (Flowered 60 Days) Plant #3: ???g (Flowered 61 Days) (Vegged 7 days longer than #1 & #2)
Things got off to a bad start during veg But everything was better by the beginning of 12/12 Day 10 of flowering Day 35 of flowering Day 40 of flowering Day 40 of flowering (close) Plant #3 - Day 57 of flowering Plant #3 - Day 57 of flowering Plant #3 - Day 57 of flowering Plant #3 - Day 57 of flowering Plant #3 - Sticky Wet Bud Plant #3 - Root Porn! Plant #1 - Drying Plant #3 - Drying sans cardboard After curing for 30+ days After curing for 30+ days
If you have a question about this strain or anything else feel free to ask. This grow is over and done.

Thanks man, I'm expecting 200g+ between the three of them. Being my first coco grow and first time using this 600w I'm really not sure what I'll get though. I switched from big bud to overdrive today, which I'll continue for two weeks followed by a 10-14 day flush.

Looking very sexy 206!
I envy your grow space, I almost wish I would have built my box larger after seeing everyones bushes here. I have always been intrigued by people pulling a couple oz's out of a 2x2x2 box... That's what i'm trying to do, but I added another 6" of height and am using the Scrog method.
Seems like you have this strain dialed in, I wish I was that comfortable with my current genetics, as it's a guessing game of what they prefer right now.

Thanks Bro,
Yeah I'm only utilizing about 25% of the tent right now, the damn frame is so cheap I don't feel comfortable hanging any more lights. In the near future I'm going to add some LED's for additional coverage though, even if I have to buy some stand-up hangers.
The buds have really started to swell these last few days, a couple side branches even folded under their own weight already. Here are a couple new pics I thought were cool:

I have noticed more fungus gnats since making the switch from soil to coco. I added sticky traps to each pot which got everything under control quickly, although you still see gnats occasionally.

Anytime I use coco I experience the worst gnat infestation, traps seem like they are getting to the problem late. Is there any way to kill the gnats before hand, such as pasteurization of the coir or some kind of chemical additive that kills gnat larva or something of the sort? when using coco in mushroom cultivation I never see gnats I don't know if this is from the coir being pasteurized, or if it's because you don't keep the substrate for as long as the 1-4 months it takes to grow reefer.

Day 48 Flowering
These buds are already rock hard, the 600w is really showing its worth now compared to my old 400w. I think the three coco plants (in white pots) will come in around 300g now.

This was my first coco grow and all I've used are the sticky traps. I might try neem oil next grow, I'll let you know how it goes.

Steve Buscemi :
Forbid for the win.
1 tblspoon to a 5 gal bucket. Douche your grow room, spray your plants. Put up sticky tape.
You might be lucky to see one or two gnats here and there.
Forbid for the win.

Day 53 Flowering
Yesterday I started the flush and should be harvesting around day 60-62 which is earlier than usual. Coco & Canna nutes have exceeded my expectations, this is going to be my best indoor harvest yet. I can't wait to find out how it tastes vs. soil.

Thanks! I just cut one down @ day 57
- The fan gives an idea of box size - Nugs are denser and stacked higher than the pic shows, like all dripping wet bud. Fine manicure will come after drying. - What didn't fit in the big box
Feel free to guess the dry weight, my guess 110g. I'll be harvesting the other two in a few days.

You prefer to manicure after drying? Something I've always personally found easier when wet. Still, those are some gorgeous buds man! You should snag a few close ups if you can

lookin good!! check ur local hydro store to check for nematodes..... or organic solution that u can add to ur nute rez to take care of the gnat problem. An over abundance of sticky traps seem to work well enough for me. Or a cm of sand over the top of the coco.

That's a badass filter. Did you make that? How was it constructed?
You notice any smell with that thing??
The nugs look great. I really want to upgrade from a 400 to a 600. In time I guess...

I bought it from foothill filters, they kick ass. I have absolutely no smell outside of the tent, exhausting 600w + 6'x6'x7' with only a stanley blower (and booster during summer). You won't regret upgrading
I'm cutting down #2 tomorrow and will have some pics of #1 when they are dry.

I hear that. Manicuring is one of those chores that's awesome but sucks ass at the same time. Scissor hash probably makes it a lot easier to deal with lol.
Do you let them dry in that box also? Or do you hang them somewhere else?

I usually fan dry in the box for 72 hours & cure for 2 weeks.Quote:

Now that the buds are manicured and almost dry, I think 85 is more realistic than 110. New closeups and dry weight tomorrow, then cutting down #2.

Well I shit you not, there was 112 (exact QP) of buds! Total was 121.8 after 9.8 of itty bitty popcorns destined for blunt wraps.
These three plants should give me enough medicine to last all winter. Just smoked a test bowl before curing and I'll be damned, it does taste like hydro. It is completely different than the soil stuff I'm still puffing on.

Dude, I wouldn't dry those buds with the fan. You might over dry them as it is too close. Let a nice dry and warm atmosphere do the work over time. Run the fan in the room, but not directly on the buds. It will help the buds cure correctly, which I think is way important.

#2 came out to 118g, which was kind of disappointing. #3 still has a week left, I'll upload some pics of that tomorrow. Both of the main tops collapsed as well as most side branches, they are all being propped up by a screen now. #3 vegged for only 7 days longer (and started flowering 7 days later) but the yield might be 50-60% higher. I'm taking a long vacation soon and will be completely shutting down for a while before starting fresh with several new strains.

As the following pictures demonstrate, plant #3 IS A FUCKING BEAST! Last week the weight of the buds split one of the main top stalks and completely folded the other one. It was too early to harvest, so I improvised and propped everything up and thinned out about 50% of the big fan leaves. I might do this intentionally from now on...its like an ultra high-stress horizontal scrog haha.
Since I propped up the G13 with a wire rack, I decided to scrog a couple Thai S-Skunks on the other side. I'm waiting for them to stretch a little more before training them, but the stems are super flexible on this strain.

I was pretty blazed yesterday and didn't realize I left the HPS on for the pics, wow. Today I went apeshit and trimmed most of the fan leaves, I've been flushing 8 days and its time to put a fork in this grow. These should be the last pictures of plant #3 before harvest. I really am going to organize all the pictures and make a comprehensive log on the first post too.
Thats how I roll
P.S. I'm coining the term HOG (Hills of Green) (Horizontal Scrog) (High-stress Scrog) P.P.S. For my upcoming and last G13 haze grow, I'm going to arrange 3 screens in an L-formation and HOG 4 plants. P.P.P.S. I'm serious

Man I'm going to have to up my yield guess on that plant. I'm gonna say you'll get a good 125 Grams from that bitch. She's a fucking beauty and looks about ready to trim up! Man I could really go for a bowl of that shit, plus I don't have weed so you are making me ultra jealous. I bet that's some great fucking dank! That plant is going to yield more than the 5 combined in my grow... oh well, someday!

Thanks guys. I chopped down #3 this morning:
Another grow bites the dust. I'll update this with dry weight and organie it soon. With the exception of a few plants I am shutting down everything for about a month, look for a new journal with new strains around Jan 20th. Peace and happy holidays!

Thars some healthy roots.
Nice job 206.
How come you prefer to trim dry?

Thanks. That was without rhizotonic and cannazym, which I've been using on my new crop with even healthier roots.
I don't actually wait until its dry, usually just a couple days when the stems are still flexibile and leaves are just starting to curl up. I find it easier to trim them when they are slightly curled like that, I don't take any pistils off like I do when its wet. This strain produces more resin than most, and it covers more of the sugar leaves than most, so admittedly I don't put forth much effort on the trim. I would love to trim an outdoor sativa right now...

#3 = 147.6! 40 of that has already been turned into cannabutter:
The last pic is right before they went in the fridge, I'll update tomorrow with finished pics. Should be potent stuff. I also unplugged my 600w today and will basically be shut down for a couple weeks. I'll still have a few plants under LEDs but more for emergency fallback and/or curiosity purposes than anything. I'll be starting new strains in a few weeks.

Excuse me while I clean up the mess I just made.
G13 haze looks like a winner for sure. If you are 206 because of where you live PM me.

That looks very tasty 206. Killer log. Could you take a pic of the outside of your tent and maybe provide me with a link? I'm looking to invest a tent of similar size very soon.

Thanks Doc, I guess I should change my user title
Honestly this tent is a piece of shit and I cannot recommend it to anyone. I went the cheap (ebay) route with this one and regret it big time, the poles sag so bad with just my 600w that I can't hang anymore lights but at the same time 600w won't cover the tent. Get a name brand tent is my advice, I'll be replacing this one with a grow lab 145 as soon as possible.

Wow, definitely glad I asked. I plan on going 1K so this is VERY good to know. I'll definitely spend the extra money now that I know this. Thank You.
