Quick question.

I am going to be starting my first grow here pretty soon, I was just wondering if I have to have separate rooms for vegging and growing.
Would I be able to just veg all the plants together in the room, then add more lighting to all of the plants once they start flowering? Or are some plants going to veg slower than others, thus requiring two separate rooms?

If your wanting to have a mother plant it is going to need a separate room from the plants that are going to be flowering.
To induce flowering you have to switch your lights over to a 12/12 schedule. At that point any plants in the room are going to go into flower. This is why you need to have a separate room for your mothers. It's not just a matter of adding more light.

Ok that makes sense. And the use for a mother plant is what? To produce clones so I can have plants to veg and flower over and over again?

Exactly, and then you don't have to wait for seeds to mature. Cuts down your time from start to finish.

Ok. I get it now. This is my first time ever considering starting a little cultivation effort with marijuana. I have like really no clue what I am doing, but it seems like it does not take a whole shitload to get some good buds goin.

Yeah it doesn't. If you are starting just a simple grow I wouldn't bother with clones. Learn the basics first and experiment along the way.
You need to learn what your plants prefer and how they grow before jumping into cloning. I'm not saying you can't do it on your first grow, but if you are limited by a tight budget and just want to get a feel for it, just try a normal soil or DWC run, and maybe keep one of the female plants to practice cloning on, but then you would need another room for vegetating plants, on either an 18/6 or 24/0 Lighting schedule.

just to supplement a bit of knowledge here, clones taken from a mother plant are an exact genetic copy of the mother, so you know if it's bomb weed. Seeds could have many varied phenotypes.

Ah ok so you are saying a clone is going to end up exactly as the mother plant is? As with seeds there are different variables and it may not be AS strong or whatever as the mother?

"Strong" isn't the best term for it. Different growing characteristics is more accurate.

yeah, seeds have different phenotypes (growing characteristics given a particular environment). a clone is a genetic replica of the mother.
