Has anyone here tried those Hortilux bulbs that have the hps and mh in one bulb? I been curious about how well they do. Its a 1k watt,400mh and 600hps. Pretty pricey,I think around $260. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks Hawk. Ill just keep using what works for me....straight hps. And since this is a post about bulbs,Ill mention that Ive used Digilux,Optilume,Sunmaster, and Hortilux. I think hands down Hortilux is the best, with Optilume being a complete waste and Digilux not very good either. Sunmaster is ok,if your in a pinch and cant afford a Hortilux lamp. Also I switch out bulbs every 3 months for best perfomance.

Ultrasun has great bulbs, imo much better than Hortilux. The plants seem to grow just as well and the bulbs tend to hold on to their lums much longer.

So have you actually been measuring the lumen output?? Seems like a bold statement unless your actually measuring with an instrument.

Yes I measure and monitor my bulbs regularly. Being visually impaired, I don't trust my eyes to do such. I've had a 400 unltrasun last 8 months with only a lose of a 1000 lums. Another note I've seen in most cases is unltrasun seems to have a higher starting lum as well my last hor bulb started at 88000 lums, the ultrasun I replaced it with tested 93000 out of the box. These were 600 watt tests of course. I forget the name brand, but I use a cheap little 35 dollar meter that you can pick up at any hydro, or photo shop. 99% of my bulbs get replaced long before they blow.

Nice, I was visiting a friend who's been blowing it up pretty big lately. Turns out he's not even replacing his bulbs, with no diminish in yield or quality. Going on 2 years with the same bulbs.
Not saying I'm gonna start doing this, considering bulbs really aren't that expensive. But I still like my Hortilux!

Ultrasun? Im not sure Ive seen that brand bulb at the grow store I frequent. Maybe Ill give one of those a try if they carry it. Im due for a new mh bulb for my mother/veg room. I just know Ill never use anything else for hps other than hortilux. I dont know, and this is just my opinion probablly, but when I consider bulb for flowering, lumens take a backseat to spectrum. And hortilux hps has the best red spectrum. Anyways, thanks for the input Stoneth.

Hortilux eye run at 2100 K. Ultrasun run at 2000 K. Such a small difference that plants don't even react differently.

I'm another ultrasun fanboy, been using them exclusively for years now. Going to try out lumateks bulbs though in the near future. I try to replace my bulbs every 2 runs just because it's inexpensive, but i've gone at least four runs on one bulb before I ran out to replace it.
Hortilux makes great bulbs, but to me ultrasun matches their quality for 1/2 the price.
