LEDs < Flouros

I just read a study conducted by Kennedy Space Center comparing LED's to flouros in attempt to maximize efficiency for space growing.
According to the data flouros where 37-75% more effective than LED's.
Looks like LED's have quite a way to go before they come close to HIDs since flouros are out producing them...

very fucking interesting! Everyone seems to be in love with the LED's recently, very interesting to hear a legitimate study with that in mind. Can you post a link to the study or at least the title/authors so we can read it?

I have a reference.
ASGSB Bull. 1995 Oct; 9: 50
Looks like I'm a dumbass since it was published in 1995. =(

I'm going to try to look for some more recent studies in attempts to redeem myself.

There is no way, watt-for-watt, modern flourescents (even HO) are still more efficient than modern LEDs. Fifteen years ago they were probably dealing with 0.01w LEDs or something. NASA is in fact one of the biggest advocates of LEDs and growing with them in space now.
From personal experience the first 55w led panel I bought exceeded the 3x65w CFLs it replaced.

Yeah, I've been reading massive amounts of studies and the date slipped by me. Stupid mistake.
I really want to try to find an updated study but I'm going to have to wait till I goto school tomorrow where they subscribe to the full articles. I can only access the abstracts from home.
