Yo folks....hoping to find a home here. Led growers get bashed on every other site so Im keeping my fingers crossed.

Welcome to the growery dude!
I'm sure you'll get a better welcome here. There's a lot of people up for experimentation around here it seems.
I'm interested to see the growing power of LED's. Would you say they are on the CFL or HPS end of the scale?
Are they just standard LED's or are they specifically tailored for growing? they seemed quite expensive when i looked at them. Same sort of prices as HPS.

They are easily comparable to HPS. It is expensive though but the worry free aspect and savings on elec along with being completely discreet.
They are designed for growing. Spectral output in the reds at 660 nanometers and the blue at 490nanometers.
I have a bunch and get serious results with no worries. There is no heat from leds and my room stays nice and cool.

Nice!  That bud looks quite dense. It's pretty impressive.
It seems expensive. Slightly more so that HPS. I spent £150 for a full 400W HPS setup inc. Ballast, Sputnik cool hood, Grolux bulb, 2m ducting, 2m hanging chain and S hooks.
I looked on Ebay and the Mixed red and blue LED's for the full grow worked out to be £130 give or take for like 300W in LED's. from what i read it's about 3w HPS = 1w LED or something along those lines.
Taking into account the money you'd then save on inline fans, etc.. for cooling a HPS it probably works out roughly the same. And as you say big electricity savings. So over a year it probably works out quite a lot cheaper.
When you get the chance you should knock up a grow log or something. So we can see from seedling to flower.

I know to many people that have used em and switched back but I do think the future of lighting is led's. They just have some work to do still.
Now for some reason not one major light company has put out led's yet. I'd think if they were even half as good as people selling them say the major bulb company's would be walking away from millions of dollars and for some reason I think they know about this.
in other words when hortilux goes led I'm gonna trust em a little more.

this guy hasn't been back since his post.
since he put a shameless plug in for the source of "his" LED panel, i'm assuming this was a cheap attempt at advertisement.
i'd like to be proven wrong, and hope to see multiple LED grow pics. i believe they truly work, but have been ruined by the cheap knock-offs that use extremely low output LEDs that are mass produced and sold as the real deal on eBay and the like.

I think LED's are coming into their own. It;s relatively new to have led putting out 10 watts per bulbs. The highest you can buy right now for a flashlight is 10 watt and man they are bright, many times brighter than any 10 watt of any other type of bulb.
If a grow panel can be drummed up using the 10 watt luxeon, and have say 200 of them, it would be blindingly bright. I'm gonna wait and see what comes up cause that would be the shit if someone can get it figured out. I beleive the current 10 watt led's at full power put out around 440 lumens, X that by 200, 88,000 lumens, twice that of a 400 watt metal halide. About 40-44 lumens per watt, they can be run at lower voltage to extend life down to about 35 lumens per watt.
And since led's run on DC power and use a transformer and are individually connected in a chain, if one goes out, the rest keep working.
I work in the commercial sign industry and we are fast moving to led's for a lot of signs now since the technology is getting better all the time.

I agree, in 10 years we might all be growing with leds as they get brighter and cheaper. Hell even florescent is improved and still improving.

While I submit that the original poster was just trying to sell his panels, I'm quite sure that LEDs are suitable for growing.
The deal with LEDs, is that they have absurd life spans, so if they were manufactured for home use by someone like GE, they would lose money after the first quarter the product was on the market. Simple economics.

On another note, when the surfboard leash was invented, it was too stretchy, often snapped, and also often sent a 10 pound 10ft long board into the face of the guy using it.
Now, leashes are strong, doesn't stretch as easily, but can stretch to 4 times it's original length (the best leashes.), and can withstand multiple HUGE wave sessions.
Oh and to the above poster. Isn't that one of the reasons hemp was made illegal (the clothes have absurd lifespans. Levi's where made out of hemp, and we know what legendary strength those had.)
