 building an ebb and flow

starting out i wanted to just do the drip method, being that seemed easiest. But I have since changed my mind to the Ebb and flow, as many of you guys seem to like it, and it doesn't seem any more difficult than the drip. The thing is i don't want to use buckets, id rather use rubber tubs, and I'm having trouble finding any teks that don't use buckets.

i really dig this set up, except i dont want to use sprayers hah. So can i use this set up with just a pump that pumps the water into the upper tub and attach an overflow? As this would eliminate the need for all that plumbing and spray nozzles. Is there any difference to the roots by spraying rather than filling it all up with water then draining? thanks guys

alright so now i feel kinda dumb, as what i described is how most people do it, exept i dont think most people are using a big rubbermaid tub for the growing tray. soo what would be the best size growing tray for 6 to 9 plants? how deep should the tray be?

First of all, yeah you don't want to use a rubbermaid as your fricken flood chamber. What you could do however, is do a DWC if your looking to keep it pretty simple.
If you would like to build and ebb n flow though, you can actually get very creative there:
I just used drainage piping.
Your question is a little hard to answer I find, perhaps someone else would be better suited for this as I personally have no experience in tray growing.
I think your dimensions should be something like: 80cm x 80cm x 12cm That should be pretty good for 6-9 plants.
Just as a side note, I would go to google and type in ebb and flow tray. Look at pictures, logs and products and build a better understanding off of that.

You can use anything you want pretty much. I used wood, plastic sheeting, dixie cups and some lava rocks and did pretty well

ebb and flow tables are super diy friendly can't recommend a more user friendly system.

I need to construct one for my Veg table.
I am currently running a drip system and it looks like an octopus there taking up quite some space.
Would be much easier to just flood out a diy made table.
How does the fill and drain process occur? 2 pumps?
the unit I bought uses float switches. I like that idea.

there's a physical drain in the bottom of the table and an overflow so it can only fill to a certain point (assuming you don't have an insane pump)
only one pump is needed, when it turns off the table drains.

so you make a smaller hole?
I just assumed that it would drain as quick as it filled.
I guess from time to time I always try and overthink things, when it "really is just that easy"

the holes are generally 1/2" that's the draining bottleneck filling depends on the gph of the pump.
the amount of medium/pots in your table are also determining factors on filling/draining
