Ebb and Flow table flood times.
    #803104 - 01/12/16 03:21 PM (8 years, 10 months ago)

I'm currently setting up a 4x4 ebb and flow table for a SOG under 1000 watts. i just tested my system and it takes 7 min to fill and another 13 min to drain. it this too much time for the roots to be submerged or am i good? I'm a complete noob to hydro I've only done large scale outdoor grows in soil so far so any advice would be appreciated.

nice. its actually filling a little faster once its filled but thats ok. also how high should the water level get? right now it gets to about half way up the tray. should it cover the medium, or is half way good?

I always ran mine at about one inch below the top of the medium.

What's important is your medium gets saturated, so you should flood long enough to allow for your medium to wick up nutrients to the part of the medium that doesn't get flooded. This will require observation and experimentation. There's no answer I can give you without seeing it myself.

You do have overflow(s) in place right?

yes overflow is in place. i need one more extension piece on it to make the water rise to an appropriate height though. my problem is i don't want some pots get either over or slightly under saturated? i was thinking just filling the pots in the lower areas with less medium as a solution so that every pot gets water up to about an inch under the top of the medium.

Shouldn't matter flooding the medium slightly unevenly/longer in that case. The clay is going to be saturated either way and the roots can take a short bath np.

Don't be scared to experiment, just keep a watchful eye on what's going on and you'll have great success. Hydroponics is easy so long as you keep an eye out for what's going on in your garden.
