Indoor Setup

I'm very new to growing this being my first actual year of my own plants, I've got 5 total and want to take 3 indoors. Basically I just need a little insight to whether or not this is a good idea.
I'm growing my plants in pots with a soil mix and am using nutrients. I was going to take a small cabinet probably 3'x3'x4' Then I was going to hang 2 fluorescent lights inside maybe more, I'd like to have 200w for 3 seedlings. Then I think all I'd need was a fan which I have, and some mylar.
I think that would be good, am I missing anything?

and I guess I'd make a carbon filter if I flower them in there

You say its 3x3x4'? That's 36cfm. You will only need a small 4" booster fan. I forgo computer fans. I just don't like them. Others do though.

On second thought, just get a 4' inline fan with low cfm rating. Build a scrubber, and get a fan controller. That should work fine.

On a side note: No mater how big your fan is, plants really like enough of a breeze to slightly move them and the leaves around. Simulating an outdoor breeze. This make the stems stronger, thicker, and you will get little to no sag when flowering. I feel like this doesnt get said enough. Try it out, and you will be happy with the results. Just a small $20 oscilating fan from walmart does wonders.

Yeah, I used a 6" $6 fan from Walmart. No problems.

Nice, I definitely need something bigger than a comp fan. Im gonna run to the store today and pick up pvc piping for a grow cabinet frame, some mylar, and a fan.

So if you are using pvc are you going to use b&w poly/panda? I wouldn't use mylar. Not even 2mm.

I don't know what black and white poly/panda is. I was going to use this plastic that is basically extremely thick black garbage bag, then have mylar on the inside.
As for the fan, I was thinking of having a carbon filter on the top, and have a hole in the side of the cabinet with a sleeve of fabric coming out and over a small fan. I think that would work just fine.

No. You want poly sheeting. You can find it at most hydro store sites. One side is a very reflective white. The other side is black. No light leaks, its durable, and you can even cover carpet with it. Mylar (even 2mm) can have light leaks. Trash bags aren't going to improve much. Also with negative pressure from the exhaust, you will have lots of movement from the extra light weight mylar on a pvc frame. Mylar is best suited to be tacked or taped onto sheet rock or plywood.

Ok, thanks. I think I got the fan problem fixed too, "hole in the side of the cabinet with a sleeve of fabric coming out and over a small fan." I'm gonna pick up some compact fluorescent bulbs, at least 60 watts per plant. I was aiming for 70 watts for each of the 3 I want to put indoors.
My friend said that I could flower them in there too. Do you think most of the stink would be kept in or neutralized by the carbon filter?

If you are going to use cfls go this route:
Otherwise get T5, T8, or HID.
With the size of your space and the lighting you suggested, you would do good to end up with an ounce.

Well I just took measurements and I've got 30"x20"x60" to work with. I think I can fit a nice little pvc pipe frame in there, but I'm wondering how I'm going to attach a carbon filter onto the side of what is pretty much just thick plastic, any suggestions on how to suspend it? Oh and do you know how many watts that light is?

They come in 125 and 200W.
You may want to rethink using pvc and opt for 2x2s or 2x4s instead. You will need a small piece of plywood to mount the fan/scrubber. If you just cant do that you will have to hang a rope in the ceiling, through a hole in the plastic, and to the scrubber.
Maybe you should consider a small negative ion generator and some ONA products. I bet that will pretty much kill the odors.

You can get neg ion gens at Walmart. They carry 3 sizes here. About $60-70 I think. You may be able to get away with using a couple of the ones that stick right into the outlet. Those are about $25. ONA or some other similar gel would be great in front of (or behind) the exhaust fan. You may need to play around with that. Keeping spray around is good too. I hat ozone generators, but that is an option.

So do you think a negative ion gen with a few of those ona odor blockers would be enough to neutralize the stench of 4 mature plants?
