 what's wrong with my ballast?

I've had a 250w ballast & light for a few years (though not in constant use). I haven't used it for over a year and when I set it up yesterday it was REALLY noisy, much more so than it has been before. Anyone know what it could be & how to fix it?

Do you know more about which ballast you have? I don't know anything about ballasts, but I did some looking around and if it became really noisy, the transformer, or other parts may have become loose, or the transformer plates are shaking apart. Is the noise like a buzz? Hopefully someone knows more.

I'm not sure who made it, it doesn't say on it other than "power plant horticultural lighting ballast".
The noise is a buzzing/humm occasionally varying in pitch/loudness but always (now) loud. There is also a lot of vibrations I've found out so it looks like it could be just a loose transformer. I'll take a look inside it tonight and tighten up whatever I can.

Problem solved. It was something loose. I opened it up and nothing really seemed that loose but I tightened everything up as far as it'd go and when I turned it back on it was back to being quiet again.

good deal, wish i could open up my hydrofarm 430 watt ballast to replace the capacitor. They must have jacked the screws on with a an impact driver because those motherfuckers won't come loose.
