You say its 3x3x4'? That's 36cfm. You will only need a small 4" booster fan. I forgo computer fans. I just don't like them. Others do though.

On second thought, just get a 4' inline fan with low cfm rating. Build a scrubber, and get a fan controller. That should work fine.

Yeah, I used a 6" $6 fan from Walmart. No problems.

So if you are using pvc are you going to use b&w poly/panda? I wouldn't use mylar. Not even 2mm.

No. You want poly sheeting. You can find it at most hydro store sites. One side is a very reflective white. The other side is black. No light leaks, its durable, and you can even cover carpet with it. Mylar (even 2mm) can have light leaks. Trash bags aren't going to improve much. Also with negative pressure from the exhaust, you will have lots of movement from the extra light weight mylar on a pvc frame. Mylar is best suited to be tacked or taped onto sheet rock or plywood.

If you are going to use cfls go this route:

Otherwise get T5, T8, or HID.

With the size of your space and the lighting you suggested, you would do good to end up with an ounce.

They come in 125 and 200W.

You may want to rethink using pvc and opt for 2x2s or 2x4s instead. You will need a small piece of plywood to mount the fan/scrubber. If you just cant do that you will have to hang a rope in the ceiling, through a hole in the plastic, and to the scrubber.

Maybe you should consider a small negative ion generator and some ONA products. I bet that will pretty much kill the odors.

You can get neg ion gens at Walmart. They carry 3 sizes here. About $60-70 I think. You may be able to get away with using a couple of the ones that stick right into the outlet. Those are about $25. ONA or some other similar gel would be great in front of (or behind) the exhaust fan. You may need to play around with that. Keeping spray around is good too. I hat ozone generators, but that is an option.

Yeah. I used 3 of the $25 ones in my closet. I'll post pics later. I'm going to start redoing my closet today . Anyway, I put odor gels near the exhaust fan (not in the grow area, but where the air was expelled. I kept the spray around in case unwanted "guests" showed up.

So I think I'm gonna invest in a HPS light. A found a nice one online that would be perfect for 4 mature plants with maybe some seedlings.

http://www.growlightexpress.com/grow-light-systems-2/sun-system-2-hps-400-watt-7.html The ballast and reflector are one unit.

Either of these would be good

http://www.growlightexpress.com/hps-mh-bulbs-7/high-pressure-sodium-29/ushio-400-watt-hps-hilux-ahs-opti-red-lamp-593.html

Does anyone have any comments on any of these products?

I would recommend the Hortilux bulb over the other one. I like them. Others will say that they are all pretty close, but IDK about that from experience.

That is a suitable light system. My concern with built in ballasts is noise. Most of those type systems are cheaper because the ballasts are magnetic. If you aren't such a tight budget, consider HTG Supply's Lumatek w/ Xtrasun (Hydrofarm) reflector. Well worth the cash, and its a full system. Lumatek ballasts are MH/HPS switchable.

I think it really doesn't get any better than Lumatek for ballasts and Hydrofarm for reflectors (well there is Hortilux). Anyway, putting my money where my mouth is, I just bought a Hydrofarm AC Radiant reflector, 400W Lumatek ballast, and cord set. Expensive, but it will more than pay for itself in electricity consumption, useable wattage, and yield.

Here is my old CFL hood

Is that what you are thinking about, or a batwing reflector?

You could get a 250W HID from HTG Supply for the price of that Hydrofarm reflector and bulb. I think I spent around $130 + shipping for the CFL gear.
