I have a Green Thumb
#752354 - 10/12/14 01:03 PM (10 years, 1 month ago) |

Ive been growing cannabis for 5-6 years both indoor and outdoor. Aside from that I have been growing larger veggie gardens, potted plants, raised beds, etc... I have also been to college and received a Greenhouse Technician diploma, and am currently 75% done a Horticulture Technician diploma program. Once I have both diplomas I plan to run a very large scale commercial hydroponic tomato greenhouse. Horticulture and growing is my passion and I do it with a furry!
So I got a leaf tattooed onto each thumb Also, yes, that is the pokemon leaf

Been growing in the Mendocino mountains since the early 80s. Been indoors since 1985. 4 years teaching with Ed Rosenthal at Oaksterdam Collage. Been breeding my own strains and seeds since the mid 90s selling them to clubs and growers since 2006.

That's interesting. Which of your strains is your favorite? That is, if you're able to discuss it on here.

I don't understand why hybrids get their own names. I think it would be easier to keep track of things if we called a strain OG Kush x Chem Dawg than if we called it Cannibal. I don't know anything about marijuana naming conventions though.

Because if you cross two strains and do the work to stabilize them they will have traits that people can count on. Now somebody else crosses the same two strains but they focus on different traits then you did. You focused on taste and smell while I focused on potency and yield.
Since both breeders are selling the same cross but it does different things it makes more sense to name the strain then the cross itself.

Started selling vegetable and flower seed packs door to door for Burpee in 1960 at the age of 7, along with growing a garden.

I plan to go to Leamington, Ontario to grow for one of the major players down there. The veggies shipped all over North America and some further.

I have made that exact cross before!!! I didnt name it anything fancy but dam it grows good!!! I dont have much experience selecting phenos or isolating characteristics but I fucking love making my own seed so I can save money. I have a stash of personal made seeds, and vials of pollen from certain strains or plants I liked. Pretty much every grow I make a new batch of seed

In 1997, when I was seven, I went door to door for school fundraisers. Today, it is not considered safe for seven year olds to go door to door.

Most my time growing is in making feminized seed and stabilizing them. Easy work just time consuming.

Basically, my parents said "go play" and I would leave in the AM, and come home for lunch, then leave again, and come home for dinner. My dad didn't want us messing up his yard, so we went to the playground.
They actually literally had a JET FIGHTER down there, parked, that kids could climb onto if they wanted. So cool, and why was it there? Who knows, but there it was. Just even begin to imagine something like that nowadays. Now understand this wasn't even really at the school playground, but at another park off a neighborhood street.

Something like that would never fly today. By the time I was a child, in the mid-1990s, even the teeter-totter was an endangered species. I don't know if there was a liability issue or what, but they are a relic today.

Auto's are pretty easy to make the auto flowering trait is very dominant and fairly easy to cross over. The problem is the strains that have the auto trait naturally in them have no thc so then the challenge is keeping the auto trait while back crossing to increase potency.
Making feminized seeds is easy the key is to stress test the parent plants to be sure they have no hermie traits in them. This is the key step most breeders in Amsterdam skip.

Get them from Soma's seeds. That way you can get all hermies. When a company says they do their feminized seeds naturally run from them.

No no no....I was being sarcastic about Soma's fems. They are total junk. (unless of course you actually want hermies)
His regular seeds are killer though or they use to be. I don't believe he does his own work anymore.

Oh i see. I like to pick up regular seeds sometimes anyway to put away the pollen. How long can I store pollen by the way?
