I get a huge round piece of dead skin on my thumb.

Dude lighten up on the pressure...capacitive touchscreens don't need a lot of pressure to locate where you are touching.
And if you aren't bearing down much...then you might spend too much time on the smartphone.
Of course I'm one to talk...I have become pretty reliant on mine as well

I really don't use it too often. I wouldn't say I really bear down on it, either.
I think it's simply from my thumb hitting the screen all of the time.
It doesn't look too crazy, just a rough patch of skin on my thumb.
Honestly, I'm surprised this hasn't happened to someone else.

Hmm... Maybe. I don't use it on the way to work at all. I'll only use it in the
morning to send and receive texts. I never spend extended periods of time on it.
I'll only do that rarely and randomly, usually when I'm off of work.
My skin probably is sensitive, but it doesn't seem that weird to me because it makes sense with all of the swiping and tapping and whatnot.

I agree with you. I really have no problem with technology, I just wish people would actually take their nose out of their phones when they try to have a conversation.
The phones probably save a business owner and its employees a ton of money.
I see the positives, but like Myco said, people were a lot more interesting before they depended on "Facespace" to tell the world who they are as an individual.
Technology isn't the problem, its the obsession that people have with it. I mean seriously I have been around some chicks that can be in a deep sleep and then wake up out of nowhere if their phone is moved. WTF?

Don't get me wrong, I don't like everything that's around nowadays.

People have always been either interesting or not, and that's all really subjective anyway.
If someone is cool, them getting a phone isn't going to change that.
I just like that I can play music, browse the web, use gps, and do a bunch
of other things on my phone quickly and effortlessly.

Wrong ass shit.
I would like to have one for music and as a camera, but I have an mp3 player and a nice, wait, noice canon camera. Plus I would hate to buy a phone and drop a G on it and then a newer better version come out like a month or two later.
I hate to admit it, but I would pay to see a few people get hit by a car cause they have their faces buried in their phone so much.
