ive been looking for any info on LED grows but 99,9% of what you find are old threads or unconclusive information.
heres my question: has anyone ever used these 90w LED panels for veg? All I want is to replace that 250W HPS im using now for veg with something that is more efficient and uses less energy.
im working with clones, so i need a light that will make them grow to their pre-flower size (usually around 40-50cm height) as quickly as possible.
LED works amazing for veg, thats where a lot of those claims of 90w LED = 400w HID come from. I haven't used a UFO but I've vegged with Blackstar 240's (not recommended, they're too low quality) and Advanced LED DS100's with good success. How large of an area are you in?
LED's are in a shady market so I would not recommend just buying a cheap one, no matter how tempting it may be. Let me know what your thinking before you buy one and I'll let you know what I think. Its tempting to just buy one on ebay for cheap but not if you want top results.
Check out the current grow, vegged with LED. I want to get rid of those Blackstars.

I still think it would take about the same wattage to cover the area, the GrowBlu veg light looks promising, OR the Advanced LED veg light that recently came out looks nice. I haven't used either but they should both do very well. The Advanced uses less wattage and uses 5watt Cree diodes. Hard to say which would work best but I'd lean toward Advanced for the 5w Cree LED's. Advanced offers a 90 day money back guarantee if you don't like it for any reason you just send it back for a refund.
Both of those would be equivalent to about 3-400 watts of MH, so even though your using the same wattage as your HID your getting a more intense light.
