Get an Ultra Sun bulb. Best bang for your buck. (If that's a concern.) Otherwise, if you're willing to shell out 50 - 70 on a bulb, get the Hortilux.

My 600w hps is an Ushio, but this is the only 400w MH I could find by them. Its only 4000k, that's a little warm for veg isnt it? I'd have to spend another $55 for a hortilux blue, and I'm a little strapped for cash right now.

That's a HPS, I need a MH. I found this though, but its twice as much.

That's the "Enhanced Blue" MH bulb. I fixed the original link to show the standard MH. EDIT: Shit, everytime I click on the standard MH bulb it links me directly to the HPS, Amazon fucking sucks.

I ended up buying the 7500k enhanced blue ultra sun. There was a 10000k for the same price but thought maybe that would be too blue...

yeah thats not quite as blue as you would want. If you're strapped for cash and this bulb will only serve as an emergency replacement then just go with a cheaper one
digilux makes a pretty good lamp. I'd go with digilux over ultra sun, but would pick one of the two.

Having a few extra bulbs at your disposal in case of a light bulb emergency is a good plan, man. Good thinking.
The way I look at bulbs is like this; To get the most out of them bulbs need to be changed out every to every other grow so I just go with the cheapest bulbs I can find that are in the correct spectrum for the phase of growth the plants are in.

Yeah I'd like to have a couple extra ballasts on hand too but my finances wont allow that for awhile.

I posted a few comparison here http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/707717 That Genesis bulb at the top is under 50$ and looks ok if their claims are legit. All I know is digilux is some BS. I personally got Plantmax 7500k pulse start 400w MH vs the genesis because of a good deal. The Plantmax is around 50$. It's really bright.

Ipower brand 400 watt metal halide bulbs are 36,000 lumens at 18.00$ (shipping included) a piece from ebay seller "hpsgrowlightstore". They are 6500K.
