1. 445.9g MHRB was broken up and finely shredded in a glass blender

2. 15 tbsp NaOH was added to 3,400 mL dH2O (Always add lye to water).

3. MHRB was combined with basic H2O in a 1 gal HDPE water jug.

6. After 15 min the naphtha was separated off with this handy syringe
contraption (hell of a lot easier than a turkey baster). It was made
by gluing two meat injector syringes together, and then gluing some
1/4" Polyethylene tubing to the tip.

If you happen to suck up some basic sludge, don't worry, just empty
the syringe into a pyrex measuring cup. The solvent can then easily
be poured off of the tiny bit of sludge you may have sucked up


*Apparently, using two syringes is necessary so that the naphtha does
not come in contact with the rubber on the plunger. because
naphtha will melt/corrode the rubber on shitty meat injector syringes.




I suspect if one had access to lab grade materials that don't degrade
with chemical contact, this could be avoided.


7. 4 naphtha pulls of 200-250ml were done in total. Before the 3rd pull,
another 100ml of basic dH2O was added to the mixture

8. Separated naphtha was placed into pyrex baking dishes. Lights were
used as a heat source to accelerate the evaporation of 2/3 of the
solvent.

*If you decide to do this, it is very important to pay attention to
your evaporation trays, checking them constantly*



9. The remaining 1/3 of solvent in each pan was left to evaporate for 24
hrs. Screens were made out of some wood and some nylon
stockings. They were very cheap to make, and are highly
recommended if one will be going the evaporation route.




*Optimism skyrocketed when the first pull began to crystallize while the
naphtha was still warm*

10. The next day the screens were removed to find many beautiful
crystals.

The 1st pull yielded 1.9g of large, tannish crystals, mixed in with whiter powdery crystals:



2nd pull yielded 1.1g of white powdery crystals:



3rd pull yielded 1.2g of white powdery crystals:


4th pull yielded 0.6g of white powdery crystals:




Total Yield: 4.8g very clean spice, with no defats, and no washes.
