Hi everyone. I saw that sporeworks restocked their supply of spppores for the albino penis envy.
I'm really excited to grow this one out.
I will use this place as my grow log.
Cannabis grows are out of the question.

Thanks for stopping by guys! I hope you enjoy the grow log.
I haven't even started this project and it's already been a ton of hassle.
It's been a few years since I have grown mushies. I am having to relearn things.
I think I have almost all the stuff I need to get this project underway.
I'm going to be using coir as the spawn medium and will be spawning with organic rye berries.
I kept my gigantic All American pressure cooker (AA930). I love that thing.
The thing that's given me the most hassle thus far is my new glove box.
I'm not a very good grower of mushrooms but have had some success in the past. I really hope I don't let you guys (and myself!) down here.
I've got something very very special planned for the fruits of my labor though.
Pictures to come in the next week or so.
I'm going to have visitors Monday so I will have to wait until after that to do the pressure cooking of the rye.
Then the spores should get here late next week as well.

Holy crap, thanks for the rating Dr. Siekadellyk!
I was to start the project tonight but I just realized I don't have any more gypsum. Which I want to use in the soak I do. So I measured out a little less than a cup of dry organic rye berries per quart jar. There are 14 quart jars. It works out to be about 8.5 lbs of rye berries. Here's a couple of pictures. Much more to come.
Tomorrow I will get the gypsum and start the soak. Then I think in the evening I will do the simmering and drying. Then later tomorrow actually do the pressure cooking and let them cool overnight. Then sunday will be Inoculation Day 2011! I don't take pictures while im doing glovebox work though. I can't wait to see the pinset on these bad boys. I was thinking about doing a g2g also. Just so i can have more in the fridge for when im ready to rock and roll with more. I just need to preserve this one better than the last. I want to do an isolate of my best specimen too. but i dont want to get ahead of myself here. I could rant about this all night. Instead i'll ask a question.
This being a site that's all about pot I was wondering if anyone else here grows mushrooms, or has grown mushrooms before???

Hi double, thanks for stopping by.
I am going with a bulk sub, yes. If i had my way I would be using horse shit, but since that isn't really an option for me (apt living ftl).
So I am going to use coir. Hopefully it all works out.
I just did about 8 rinsings of the rye. then added a tbsp of gypsum to the mix. I'll allow the rye to soak for about 10 hours. then boil them for a bit and load them into the jars and get them into the pressure cooker. more to come...

Thanks! Well, i encountered my first little hicup. I think i was too aggressive in stirring up the rye when it was setting out. I've got too many busted kernels im afraid. I stirred them around once ever 3 hours or so. the rye soaked in the water for 10 hours today. then i drained the water out and rinsed off the kernels but this time using strainers to rinse with clean water. Then refilled the container with rye and water and 1 tbsp of gypsum. now it's on the burner simmering for a bit - absorbing more water. next i will dry them off, load them up in the jars that i've been preparing and pc them bastards. I find this to be the biggest pain in the ass of all this. Sterilization and inoculation. I hope to god i have no contaminates. I can't deal with any more of that bullshit. blah! yadda yaddda

now im more concerned about how dry the kernels actually are on the surface. moisture content internally looks good. I just spent a lot of time putting the jars together. My pressure cooker holds 14 quart jars. ive got it just starting to cook now. Pictures!

Thanks dude! I just inoculated the 14 jars. Damn i forgot how ridiculous this whole process really is. I was up till 4 am with that pressure cooker last night. Now im done for the night and the jars were just left in the glovebox for the night. In fact, i think I will probably keep them incubating inside the glove box. Should be ineresting to see what happens. The needle was thicker than i thought and left some giant holes. Anyway, here's a few more pics.
 
these are both pictures from just prior to inoculation about an hour ago. I actually think the grains are pretty much near perfect. So far so good. Pray for no contaminates.

Four days into colonization and they are showing no sign of mycelium. They are at 78-79 degrees. I kept them in my glovebox to colonize. Hopefully I see something by sunday. I kind of expected these things to take a while to get fully colonized. I'm probably going to sterilize more grain and do a g2g transfer so i have more myc to spawn with. will be using the following tek...

that could be. thanks for the advice! I'm going to place some micropore tape on the top of them, where the injection holes are. then i can take them out of this glovebox and feel a bit safer about contams not entering in the jars. I did notice some new myce growth in one jar last night. But also bear in mind that i haven't given these jars a thorough, 360 degree, examination yet. I will do that after i put the tape on later today. so there is something brewing!

I went ahead and reapplied that micropore tape over the inoculation holes and moved all 14 jars to a different location. They are in the cabinet above my fridge. It's hovering around 80 degrees up there. They should get more air exchange up there. I noticed a lot of mycelium starting to form in some of the jars. not so much in others. I'll post pics when there's something to look at.

Since placing the jars in a different place and putting the tape on the top of the jars I have noticed that the mycelium is starting to grow much faster now. Still at 80 degrees outside the jars. I wonder what the difference is between the outside and inside temperature is. You have to imagine that it's warmer in the jar than out.

ya know I got to admit at first I was a little weirded out to see a shroom grow here rather than at the shroomery, but I'm enjoying this, takes me back

Thank you Mr. Ba11sach! Awesome avatar!!!!! It seems weird to me that a person with the name ballsach would be weirded out by a shroom grow in the 'other growables' section. hehe, I signed up for the shroomery (someone already had my name over there, argh!) but can't see the flippin grow journals section over there, so here it stays! I smoke a fair amount of pot too, so I will probably have some cannabis grow logs in the future for everyone to enjoy. Thanks for stopping by! I will try not to fuck up.
