straining it will separate the trim/bud from the oil..... what impurities are u trying to get rid of? Ive never heard of this method ever.......
and hot oil + water = not good. Ive never "refined" my batches, and mine are potent and tasty. as long as u strain it, it still tastes good. are you trying to take the green color out?

I make coconut oil by boiling it in water for an hour until the oils are starting to surface. Then add the coconut oil for another half hour or so. Let that cool in the fridge and the plant material will settle to the bottom. Take the hard oil out and filter. Cooking with water removes any unwanted water-soluble byproducts. It also takes any guess work out of heating since it will not get above 212ºF. You also don't have to worry about pressing all the oil out of the plant material, as there will be little left in the coconut oil after everything cools and it sinks to the bottom of the water.
