Earlyest time to flip w/ minimal stress
    #599872 - 12/05/11 08:15 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

As I understand, even if a plant is put in flowering (12/12 lighting schedule) from the moment it sprouts, it will still vegetate for a certain period of time. im guessing this will probably stress/stun/stretch the plant and the end result will not be worth the time and effort (not to mention space in the flower room).

My dilemma is that I have 3 seedlings (2-4 days old) and 2 2 week old plants, which are all from bag seed, but I just ran into lots of official seeds, so I definitely dont want to keep the bag seed plants as mothers (which is what I was gonna do). Plus, I just harvested, so the closet is half empty:/

My question is what is the minimum amount of time i could keep the bag seed seedlings in veg to minimize stress? I'm planning on cutting off any branches and using galon pots. Also, can I trow the two girls(hopefully) that are 2 weeks old in flower right now? I heard that red light and long "nights" induce males in earlly stages, can someone verify this? If so, how long until the plant "decides" on it's sex?

You can go 12/12 from seed if you don't care about yields.

and even then with the right stock a half ounce+ is still not a problem.

what do you want to hear man?
it really depends on your genetics and flowering conditions

Sorry, didnt mean to offend you or w.e
I was hoping you'd elaborate on what you are saying, as I don't know what the best thing to do here is. This is why I made this thread o.O ...and yes, I tried the search function and google.

So, what would cause me to have extriemly low yields?

It boils down to, how tall you want the plants in question, and genetics.
If I was going to grow a true sativa indoors, I'd most likely go 12/12 from seed to control over all height, and taking in consideration of their flowering time.

And say if I wanted a bunch of 10 to 12 inch indicas, then I'd start them from seed in 12/12.

Thanks Stoneth!
Well my canopy is completely uneven as it is, but im going to do sog after these last few bag seed plants. Right now I have a 3 1/2ft tall bag seed "sour strain" (if there is such a thing) and 3 12" tall clones (same plant) and a bunch of empty space cause I just harvested 4 autos I had going.
I have a 2ft deep 4ft wide grow space, so the big girl is on the far right, and the hps is on the far left and slanted pointing right. I put up 4 42watt Cf's to compensate for the 2 1/2 ft distance beetween my hps and the clones/autos :frown:. I only flowered it cause I was gonna use it for a mother, but this strain takes 2-3 weeks to root, so I threw her in right after discovering that....she was 11" at the time...i guessed 2 ft at most after the stretch.  :goat:
Yeah...its really bad in there...i was on the verge of chopping her for hash countless times now.

Next time you find yourself in this spot, learn to tie them down.
The more even you keep the canopy the better.

Well, you asked for the earliest flip with minimal stress, and you can grow from seed at 12/12 without much "stress"...unless the genetics are stupidly easy to hermie.

I had a lot of bagseeds going, and only had enough room for X amount of plants in the veg cabinet. This seedling was about 8 days out of the cube when I put it in the flower room (better than throwing it away, right?)...it ended up female and here she is at 5 weeks:

 Not bad for something that was just gonna be in the trash. Its about as long as a standard bic lighter.

I'm kind of doing a 12/12 from seed with mine, although I gave em 24/0 for the first five or so days, until I decided to do so.You can easily get an ounce per plant if you grow out the right strains, but then again, you can get tiny plants that only yield a few grams at best if they don't take well to it:crazy:I really think we need experiments done on some major strains to see which ones react better to this newer way of growing:grin:
