i think i want to get a 500 cfm intake? fan for our grow. I can't seem to pinpoint exactly what i need. I've seen mention of blowers, and i've seen pictures of the round fans, which i assume is what i want. I don't know the terminology, so i can't google very well. Can anyone help?

in-line centrifugal fan or squirrel cage blower are general choices.
Also look into Carbon scrubber
Does that help?

Try googling can fan or vortex fan. Also in-line fan.. you won't want to use fans like this:
You'll want one like this:
The first one just helps move air that's already being moved through the vent tube. The second one actually forces the air through the tubes. I know; I have both of them. I bought the first one at Home dePot for $25 bucks, and the second from an online site for $200 (it included a carbon filter too!)...

Yea, he had a better, more technical answer... lol
What are the dimentions of your grow room? Keep in mind that when you put a carbon scrubber on the air tube, you'll end up bringing down the amount of CFM's the can can actually move...

5 to the both of you! I can't give ratings, so that will have to do.
We are doing a small 4' x 4', for practice. We have a good couple crops worth of mid grade bagseed, then we will go from there.
Our rough plan was 2 crops bagseed, then a crop or 2 of good seeds, all in soil.
I want to get to the point we have mother plants, then build separate rooms for veg and grow. One day we will have perpetual harvest using SOG.
One day we hope to breed, but that's years down the road. Right now we are just trying to learn.
We have a 400w MH and a 400 w HPS ballast and bulbs. We will make a growbox with Visqueen. We dont plan to use any filters at first. But we will get a carbon when we grow the good. I cant be on here too much, bc i work during the day, but we will be on here a lot come shortly.
Thanks and have a good one.

Here is the fan & filter set I picked up last week. Its works well so far, but the inner mesh on the filter isn't very fine, and some of the carbon fell out in transport... I'm not sure how this filter will last. I haven't hooked it up yet, as I only have 4 cuttings that can't even be called clones yet! Lol
Bargain shopping and getting cheap chinese equipment with no/minimal warranty is probably not as cost efficient in the long run though. Yes, I probably saved a good $500 between the tent, light, fan and filter (and when I've already spent $1500, that's a pretty chunk of change! Lol). But, the electric ballast they sent with my light didn't work right out of the box, so I had to have them send me a new one (there goes the 1 replacement I get!), and now if that goes out I'm f**ked... also, when I got the fan, there were spare parts just rattling around inside the black plastic case for the cord. And, one of the screws had partially severed the ground wire, to boot! It still works ok, but come on!!
When I start upgrading my equipment, I will be buying all american made equipment with full warranties on all of it!

HTG SUPPLY has a good selection and price. I have the 6in fan and carbon filter combo, pad $210 w/shipping. I have a 4x4 tent and it's to much for it had to tone it down with a dimmer switch.
