harvest time!

So my plants are going to be ready for harvest in a day or two. However I've got a couple of questions:
1.) what do you do if the top nugs are more developed and ready to harvest as opposed to the lower ones which still have mainly white hairs?
2.) is the mason jar technique for curing worth it? - if it is how do you dry the nugs but leave just the stem still bendy and moist (so that they're ready to go into the mason jars for 12 hour intervals)?

Funny I have the opposite problem, large nugs are still growing and bottom nugs are ready to fly.
Easy cut the main nug. Lower the lights to develop the lower nugs. You don't have enough light pen, try real HPS 1000W sometime.
Read the techs for curing. Those questions are easily answered in techs.

1)Cut off big bud and let inmature buds mature.
2)Yes, it is worth it.
The stem should not be bendy and soft. Twig snapping dry. Need to study up on that tek. PM me if I can help futher.

first of all thanks for the responses!
I'm nervous to cut off the main buds in case they're not fully developed but I can't get a good read on the trichomes without cutting off the bud. the pistils look pretty good but I know they're not such a good indicator..I'm not sure what to do.
the bubblegum plant has many small nugs that are more evenly spread. so I cut off one of the side nugs to check it out, most of the trichs are still clear. here's a pic of the nug I cut off:
it's air drying under a fan right now
from what I understand with the mason jar 'burping' tek you want the nugs to be dry and the stem to still have some moisture so that inside the jar the stems moisture gets reabsorbed by the nugs. so I'm guessing you wanna let your buds air dry for a little while before putting them into mason jars?
also I've come across what is probably a retarded question but I feel I need to ask anyway: for making bubble hash do you freeze and soak all the leafs or just the ones you trim off of the buds?
thanks again guys

If more of the trichromes are clear let it mature more.
I like mine to aleast be 50/50 or more.
Looking at the trich with a microscope on a plant is a bitch but so cool.

thanks again guys.
I'm gonna take the sample nug out from under the fan and into a mason jar. what do they say 10-12 days of 12 hour interval burps?
I'm so amazed at how much the bubble gum smells like bubblegum when you trim it, sooo delicious
and anyone got the answer to this

I dunno, I've come to dislike the dry to the stem snaps. It's been my experience that by the time that happens the bud itself has become way to dry.
There was a forum post talking about using RH as a better indicator on when to jar your buds. You dry until the buds are nice and crispy, toss em in a jar with a small hygrometer, and check it. If the RH is above a certain level you remove the buds and bag dry them for 6-12 hours then try again. You repeat this until you can maintain that RH in the jar consistently.
Now I haven't gotten a hygrometer to do this, but I dry until the bud is really crispy and doesn't feel spongy. Then I toss in the jar over night. In the morning I crack the jars and feel the buds, if they're soggy into the bag they go for 12 hours until I jar them again overnight. It takes usually 1-2 treatments of that before they're ready for the full cure. That's just me though, I think you'll find your own routine that works for you. Everybody is different, in my area my RH is very very low so my buds tend to dry quicker, people in more humid climates will notice their buds dry slower. After a couple of harvests you'll have a method down that works for you

Yeah, ambient RH can make a big difference. Took about a week and a half to get buds jar-ready one really humid summer where as my last batch dried out in about three days this winter. I also agree they shouldn't be quite cracker dry when they go in the jar but it's hard to describe just how moist you can safely get away with, you just have to get a feel for it.
