do you mean A 600 vs. A 1000??? yeah theres a case... if you are growing a smaller amount or in a smaller area you don't need a 1000.
there's also a million different ways to grow, so keep doing your research and just figure out whats best for you. we can give opinions, but in the end, you're the one who will make the decision.
p.s. i grow in a 3'x3' with a 400 and thats a lot of light for that area, more than plenty.

one 1000 watt is better then a 600w. two 600w is better then one 1000w and better then two 1000w if you want to save energy.

Actually having a 1000w doesnt nessecarily mean you are growing big, in a colder climate a higer wattage bulb is a great suppliment to using a heating source. Why use a heat source when you can put that energy into light which will produce heat aswell. But that aside a 1000w will give you denser buds than a 400 or 600 hands down, especially with a good feeding program. You can have a 1000w in as small as a 4x2x7h room and get your time and moneys worth. I only use my 1000w for flowering even though its a switchable unit, I have a 400w switchable with both bulbs so I use that for veg. I don't run both at the same time. The 400 gets run for 1 week of veg after my clones come out from under a folouro and then I flower under MH for 1-2 weeks as the plants do not actually seek out that more reddish spectrum which hps prduce. I like dense rock solid flowers and a high yield.

I've used 1000W and 600W. Right now my 1000W are somewhat old, more likely pull 900W-950W. In close range, two 600W are great. But they aren't two 1000W.
I had 1 1000W for a 4x4 area that wasn't that dense and bud grew alright. Buying all the extra ballasts, if you buy new gets ridiculous for 600W or 400W. What about bulbs? Have fun replacing all those extra 400W or 600W bulbs vs going with a couple 1000W. If you buy fancy bulbs you get ass raped(which are a rip off, I use the cheapest I can buy and they work the same).
At the same token, whatever the recommendation is for the bulb, if you just divide half the area and double the light, that is awesome for cannabis. Two 400W are great for veg of a 4x5 area, but that would BLOW for flowering.

I was under the impression that 600 watt lights are more energy efficient than 1k lights are. My wife and I were just discussing today where I got the idea from, and I can't remember. Lol
When I say more energy efficient, I mean they put out more lumens compared to how much energy they use.
Put it this way... ten 600 watt lights vs. Six 1k watt lights... which one puts out more lumens? That's what I would like to know... they definitely would cover a better range, but would it be more cost efficient?

I think 600 is more efficient for a SOG. Smaller plants, closer together, closer to the light source.

After re-reading that, I remember now why I thought 600's were more efficient, but I was still going with 1k... lol
