 SoG growers - max plants per area

Well I'm sure we've all seen magash's dixie cup grows but how many plants do you guys usually pile in to a 3x3 area or whatever you use?
I've only used 16 in a m2 area. A friend of mine did 6x7 rows (42 plants) in a 3.15x3.15(1m2) area I believe using 7" pots?
When does it become overkill or counter productive? Let's say for a 3x3 area... I've seen commercial growers(by this I mean people growing for nothing but yield) on icmag do 36 plants which I thought was kinda on the nutty side.
Your thoughts?

You can go up to 4 per sw foot.
That is what these are at

so a 3x3 = 36 = optimal?
I'd assume by what you mean by up to is after that it's of no gain in yield?

What is the volume of those pots?
Did you run them 12/12 from clone, or did you veg at all?

I have nearly 49 plants in 2litre pots (5.2" at the widest part of the pot) for a 3x3' canopy.
If it gets too crowded I'll space them out a bit, it seems alright though.
