Definitely a little bit more complicated with the nutes. I would say to go ahead and get your ph meter or strips, and TDS meter now and get familiar with using them.

And yeah, nutrients are a lot more complicated than lighting. Just remember the Goldilocks Rule: not too much, not too little.
Too much and its toxic to the plant. Too little and the plant starves and plant growth slows down, even to the point of death! (at least in my experience).
But if Coaster can figure it out, how hard could be it?
TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids... basically a meter that measures the ppm of your solution, but it does so by measuring the Electrical Conductivity of the solution (Hence why TDS meters are sometimes called EC meters)
