Can a MJ plant have to big of a pot?
    #268017 - 08/20/09 04:52 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

I would like to avoid transplanting. Could I possible just put my seed into a 5 gallon bucket and not have to transplant again? Can a seedling have to big of a pot? Thanks guys

Sure you could, but there are numerous advantages to transplanting. Is there a specific reason you don't want to?

Not really. It's not an issue, I'm just afraid I'm going to kill a plant while I transplant it. Could you please explain a little bit about the advantages?

Smaller pots offer improved aeration since there is less growing medium surrounding the roots. Since the root mass will be more consolidated, the medium will dry out more evenly after watering. The same goes for feeding...you will use less nutrients since the amount of feeding is easier to gauge, i.e. stopping as soon as water begins exiting drain holes.

There are some more benefits but I'm pretty blazed right now and don't want to ramble :P

Strain is Sweet 16. I bred the strain myself for SOG growers. Took years to get a pheno with no branching. The strain was Sweet Tooth #3 crossed with Mikado. Since then it has been beefed up with Purple Kush. One plant per sq foot, typical SOG.

Yeah I was gonna say the earth is an unlimited pot.. but someone beat me to it lol..

I have found its better to go to big than to small..

to small = over ferting.. over watering, and under watering, wild ph swings..

I did a plant with like a 3.5 gal pot it did AMAZING, I did some more with 1.2 or so gallon they sucked hard.. Looked sick, had to many problems that I couldn't get balanced.. the large one I just flushed with tons of water every 2-3 weeks.. it did killer!

I always put my clones directly into a 7 gallon pot when they are ready to transplant. No pot is too large. The more you have to transplant and fukk with a plant the more you stress it out and the more you risk injuring it.

These clones

grew into this in 30 days.

if you have the space start big.
