friend is setting up a stealth grow. he plans on just starting 6 picking 4 best and hoping for 2 females.
they will keep it in a 1 gallon pot with minor trimming and tying down for some extra yeild and ore light.
they were thinking maybe only 120wts of cfl in multiple colors.
they were only goin to veg for 10days then straight 12/12.
ps...im know stranger to growing, just helping friends do it in a way im not familiar with.

woah woah woah, first off don't just outright kill 2 of the plants before they show sex and then hope for two females. Wait until they all show sex and then choose your best. What if all 4 of your 4 best are males and you ended up killing the two girls?
and I would recommend no less than 200W of CFL's for two plants if you want to yield anything decent. closer to three or four hundred would be even better

sorry...i.meant wait til sex then pick best. they have very small space...so im not sure if i can keep til sex shows???
clones would be the answer maybe..but i have very nice seeds id be given them.
sorry..took a few too many kpins this morning.
they have small room. and I know for a fact with 2 1 gallon pots 120 watts can bring in atleast a few ozs,
ive been used to hps light closet growing. so i am tryin my best to help these friends out.

perhaps a 70W hps??? whats the lowest they got..? plus they want to keep heat minimal.

no way will you get a few OZ with only 120W and two plants in a gallon each. Maybe one ounce, or 1.5, but I'd be stunned if you got three or more. I did a round with 250W of CFL's and two plants in one gallon hempy buckets. and got about 2oz give or take a couple grams. If you can yield more than that with only half the light I will seriously tip my hat to you.

what kind of square footage are we talking here? 70W HPS is what I would use for like a single square foot of growing area. If they have even a 2x2 then I'd still say buy a 250W

well be working with about 3 ft l to r and 4.5 ft up and doown give her take
its an old computer compartment where the tower was.
id like to use cfls for them so they can keep the heat down and less circulation would be needed.

i have had lots of experiance in growing outdoors...great things came from it..im not new
but tryin to keep it stealth is hard..
i have grown with cfls before and got great results. lots of tying down and really putting the lights as close as possible to avoid burns is great way to maximize use.

well a couple things are wrong with that plan;
1) CFL's actually give off more heat per unit of usable light than HID lights. I know it sound counter intuitive, but it's the truth.
2) you want minimum of 50W per square foot. I grow with around 75 W/ft^2 and sometimes as high as 100.
3) the more circulation the better. Always. no matter what light you're using, the more fresh air you can get your plants the happier they will be
All that said, I've seen and done some very great grows with CFL's and from a financial standpoint I can certainly understand the desire for CFL's. something else to consider with them, although they give off more heat than an HPS, the heat is divided over 10 bulbs or so, so it seems lower overall so you'll be able to get your plant closer to the bulbs.

realistic...say 150w of cfls...would a oz and half be reasonable???
they want to use whats in the house since they are broke.
with my hps experience..i have had a hard time helping.
i was around on overgrow..its been some years since i really communicated with other growers.
I seem to be on a mission to get these guys a gerat cfl grow.
Rubbermaid tubs would be used also. with cpu fans with passive intake.
since low on cash...the big prob will be smell. but with 2 small plants it wont be much, but i know the all give off smells.
thanks for the help...i hope to get them atleast a few ozs with help.

If you're looking for a few oz then you seriously need to consider close to 300W of CFL. I really don't think there's a way around that

ive made out with 2oz on 190 watts of cfl...
greenthumb
but ill look and keep it at 200ish watts i think. just enough for some personals for occasions my caregiver is busy.

friend got 70w of blue and warm cfls on 4 plants in seed form in small square pots( just for sprouting). watered til pouring a lil out bottom, mainly dry, water today...
small stealth med cab,,,simple, gl to muh chap
no more than 200ws will be used for the reminder. ,
lets see what he can do with help of a old cfl grower.
and not just this thread...oncei get 50 many of you neeed some leave karma..many nice minds here.
