building a stealth box out of a server case:

so i'm building a server case into a stealth grow box. i gutted the insides already, wired up the power supply to be on when the plug is in, and wired up the 120mm intake / exhaust fans. got 2x 23w 6500k CFLs mounted in the top, horizontally. still working on lightproofing the case, and gotta figure out some sort of light trap and air scrubbing setup. i'm thinking a DIY carbon filter cartridge about teh size of a soda can.
any suggestions on what to do with this thing?

I think you should take it and put it in your nearest dumpster!

Well at least this way if the cops show up to confiscate your grow and your computer, they can get both in one trip. That will sure make for one micro grow.

umm are you expecting to make the plant only 6" tall
dont use a bottle, use something much shorter like a coke can or something

i just put the bottle in for a size reference. and the point isnt to hide my grow, its just for fun and to do something a little different. i've got a closet grow going, but i had this old dead server laying around and thought it would be cool. i'm thinking to put either several small containers or a tray that occupies the bottom, and do a micro scrog. my plan is to have 12 or so inches between the soil surface and the CFLs. i am thinking that would be enough room for clones to be flowered.
you guys gotta be open minded!

I saw a $600 micro hydro setup built into a cpu on a site. They were running a 50watt hps in it. Power to ya man. It will be interesting at least. The setup that they were selling was for two small plants.

i've been doing some reading and im thinking if i trained them right, i could put two plants in and get a good canopy going. and still have room for a good DIY scrubber in the front of the case.

You've got a nice case for germinating seeds there.

carefully trained clones! there's not enough space in there to grow seeds to sexual maturity, and no way am i gonna do that much work without knowing sex. 2 clones with their main stems growing horizontally from opposite ends of the case is what i'm visualizing. they would theoretically form a good canopy if i played my cards right. not everyone can fill up a closet with hydro equipment and 1000w HPS setups. even if i only pull a quarter ounce out of this, it would be a cool little experiment.
and for the doubters:
its been done successfully by lots of people!

I was just saying that it would be good for germinating seeds for your closet, or for, possibly, keeping a mother alive to take clones to refill your closet with (you could probably bonsai one to fit in that space). I mean, if you have the stuff and the time, why not try some kind of micro grow in there, but there are other ways you could make that space be used effectively that could work together with other space you have to make a more productive garden.
Tell me more about the specifics of your closet grow; size, lights, how you run your plants.

micro grows are fun to experiment with, but, that's about it. Like sirius said it would make a good seedling closet, or, even a good clone closet. Other then that it has little use unless you want to grow tiny buds for the hell of it.

so i decided on going with dwc for the setup. got a clone stuck into a 3" netpot with hydroton.
the one thing i can't find a straight answer on is whether the netpot is supposed to hover above the water so the bubbles popping keep the hydroton wet (which seems like aeroponics almost...) or if the netpot / hydroton is supposed to be all submerged and the water just has enough air from the bubbles in it. help!

DWC stands for Deep Water Culture, and bubbles of mist hitting the roots doesn't sound like deep water to me.

my closet grow is two 3 gallon pots with a mother and a bagseed baby, and a 2'x2' ebb and flow table with 3 clones growing in rockwool. i just keep adding 26w CFLs to the closet as my plants increase, trying to keep 1600-2500 lumens per square foot.
the closet space itself is about 45 inches wide, 27 inches deep, and about 6 feet from the floor to the coat rod that i hang my CFLs from. its not the kind of closet with a door persay, its one of those kinds that are really wide and shallow with two sliding doors.
