As many watts as you can possibly find. Look on the box for color temperature. 6500k is for veg, 2700k is for flowering

Just use 2700K then if your not wanting to buy 2 different sets of lights.
But if your willing to spend a few extra bucks, you buy the 6500k bulbs for veg and then just change the bulbs out once you switch over to flowering.

Could I use a Mixed Spectrum? If so how many 2700k and 6500k cfl lights should I use?

Just my .02 cents....
If you insist on mixed spectrum setup of light, go for a good ratio of 2:1.
so... for every 2 2700k bulbs you purchase, buy 1 6500K bulb, and remember to give each plant at least 100w of light to ensure sufficient lighting and minimal stretching... for CFL's anyway
Hope this helps

Great advice IMO. I use just 2,700 and 3,000 through both veg and flower and don't have stretching issues as long as you have enough watts.

Her's what I have to say... Just save the money and buy the proper lights needed for veg and flower. I was going to use CFL by found out that you aren't going to get the same result. Go to this link for the best buld to use.

you will not regret it...

Well obviously MH is going to be best for vegging, but honestly this is what I have to say.
For a new grower, and a first grow, I WOULD NOT recommend buying an HID setup. Get one successful grow under your belt with CFL's and then decide if it's your cup of tea or not. Not everyone is cut out for this hobby, some people have it and some people don't and there is no point to throw away hundreds of dollars to find out you don't really want to do this!

I understand your point Inverted. But I would never dissuade someone who wants to start out with HID not do so. If you have extra cash, go for it I say. Step in with the big boys right from the start. The learning curve would be the same either way.

I guess I am just a penny pincher If I were him I would just buy a 150 to get started, then upgrade after the first run if you want.
