Does the light BULB really matter?

I have all my supplies and everything I need. Including my bulbs, but I am wondering if I should get one of the more expensive bulbs. I am using a digital HPS/MH ballast. What light bulbs does everyone recommend?
I want the best I can get without paying an outrageous price for nothing. Just want to make sure I dont pay for something that doesnt work. What are your thoughts/suggestions? Thanks everyone!!

Like this for instance, what is different between these two bulbs besides the price? They both state 55000 lumens and increased violet and blue and both state they are brighter then normal hps. But the price difference is HUGE! I dont want to pay for a name, I want to pay for performance.

The expensive one: Quote:
The EYE Super HPS EN Grow Lamps provide 17% more total energy and 25% more energy in the violet, blue, and green spectrum than standard High Pressure Sodium lamps. These lamps are environmentally friendly and pass EPA, TCLP test criteria as non-hazardous waste.
The inexpensive one: Quote:
1 year warranty
I suspect that the inexpensive one has a much shorter lifetime and perhaps runs a little hotter. Also, the hortilux bulb probably provides a better spectrum of light than the standard bulb.

To answer your question though: No it won't make a huge difference. I mean this of course depends on your level of growing- though the performance increase would be marginal, it would actually be noticeable I believe. Then again, I doubt this would be of any concern at all if all your working with is a single 400W HID light. I personally would buy the cheaper one if I were in your shoes.

Hortilux in particular use a different firing mechanism and different luminous element than ANY other bulb on the market. I just found that out a couple weeks ago and I've unfortunately never had the opportunity to use one, but man do they look good

I've used the hortilux bulbs and made the switch to ultrasun with my recent grows. For a 50 dollar difference in price, the difference in the end result is nothing. So, if you have the money hortilux's are nice, but I've been really happy with these ultra sun bulbs at 1/2 the cost.

Go with the cheaper bulb. With almost no difference in growth and the fact that you are a brand new grower the difference in price isn't justified. I used Hortilux for years and have switched to a cheaper bulb do to the amounts of gardens now and have found no difference in growth at all.
