Lamp manufacturers have pursued the ideal spectral output for plant growth for years. The biggest advancements made in HID sources for plant growth has been to enhance the inherent deficiencies of either H.P.S. or M.H. While these specialized lamps are much better than standard lamps, the fact is that neither technology can be altered enough to be truly optimum for plant growth. The Ushio Dual is the finest H.I.D. lamp that combines both enhanced M.H. and Super H.P.S. technologies to achieve strong peaks for both vegetative growth and flowering. Must be run in 1000w H.P.S. System.
Wow never knew this type of bulb existed.
Anyone ever try it before?

That's a strange idea. The two lamps require different filaments; what if one filament burns out before the other?

Yeah it's goofy. Your gonna need a light mover in order for it to work. Even with the two in one bulb you're still gonna get half the plants under MH light and half under HPS. They have to get the spectrum of both bulbs to emit from a central source.

what are your thoughts on hangin the lamp vertically? Do you think that would enable both spectrums to blend before hitting the plants?
I'm just thinkin out loud here
Thanks for sharing deadkndys

You know it should. The thing is now almost all the light has to be reflected down to the plants.
Plus they already have phosphorus coated metal halid bulbs that have a balanced spectrum.

no shit.Thats interesting. I had no idea they made coated bulbs like that.
If i didn't have height restrictions I'd buy this reflector and give that bulb a try.
I need a BIGGAR grow room!

I still think an eye hortilux blue MH or Ceramic Metal Halide(might not come in 1000w yet) bulb would still have better spectrum coverage. Dual arc is an interesting idea though.
Heres a spectrum comparison for eye hortiluxs dual arc vs their MH blue bulb.
Super Blue Dual Arc
Blue
I'm not sure why they don't just put the MH Blue bulb in the dual arc.
heres a 400w Phillips master color HPS - ceramic metal halide spectrum which costs about the same as 400w eye hortilux blue if you shop around.

I agree with ya. I also (like I said earlier) think that they are useless as full do all bulb unless it's spinning. The plants on one side are gonna be getting the MH light the plants on the other the HPS and plants in the middle getting varied mixes of both lights.
the dual arc is junk!!!

I've tried flowering with the Hortilux Blue, it didn't even come close to getting the results I would get with HPS.

of course it wouldnt be as good as hps.
But did you try the blue in veg?

Because that's what they're trying to tout these as. The new next best thing. A bulb that is giving you enhanced blue and red spectrum at the same time.

That's weird if the combined spectrums isn't more beneficial. Seems like it would be, at least to improve yield since it more closely resembles the sun, but maybe not. Glad I didn't buy the hortilux blue then.
I was thinking that vegging with a hortilux blue and flowering with ceramic metal halide would be the best option, but that could be untrue too.

I have never heard the stuff about the blue being a flowering bulb. I have been using them since 2008 for vegging and I haven't seen anything better in 30 years.

They're great for veg. Just are a waste of time in flower. Never used the ceramic before.

Yeah I'd have to agree. I mean just from the look of the light from the blues I wouldn't even think of flowering with them.

No, theyre not.
I think you mean you tried the dual spec. The blue is a standard mh with no red.
Theres the blue, the red, the dual SPEC which has both blue and red.
They recomend for best just full mh for veg and flower super hps. Nothing new.
The duals are dumb.

Nope the blue. Look at the spectrum it is putting out. It's has an increased red/orange range
