Lumatek Ballasts

I'd like to start this forum off by saying how much I love my 2 Lumatek 600W ballasts. they're SILENT, about 50% cooler than a magnetic ballast, produce brighter light, and can run both types of bulbs.
additionally, when I started the gravity treatment this grow I didn't need to raise my HPS lights to avoid burning (which is a hassle with my setup). I just simply turned the knob down to 50% power and all was well.
great product

That's cool that you can adjust the power level on them. I didn't know they had that function. I've got a couple of 400w Galaxys that do ok. These are about the same price, new, correct?

I fully agree on the Lumatek but you have to watch shady salesmen. They tell ya how it runs both types of bulbs just one problem. Yes it will run both types of bulbs if there was such a thing as a 600watt MH bulb.

No, you would need to get a converter for it.

Wait a minute. These things have switchable power? As in you can grow with 400W then turn it up to 600W when they start to fill out? Am I getting this wrong?
Do you use the same bulb?

umm... I'm honestly not sure exactly how they work with alternate bulbs, but they have a dial on them that switches it between 50%, 75%, 100% and "extra lumens". it noticeably dims the bulb so I suppose you could do that if you wanted. I just use it to prevent stress to my plants with gravity.
Nextgen ballasts can run 400W or 600W bulbs with either 120v or 240v inputs, HPS or MH. those are some cool ballasts too

I have to get me one of those! Think I might buy one for next grow. Sell the current one to someone. My mates are all starting to grow now. It kind of sucks actually.

forgive my ignorace, is it "there's no 600W MH bulb yet" or is there some kind of technological issue where they just literally can't make MH bulbs in 600W?
I guess that sunpulse bulb I picked up yesterday technically claims to be a "pulse-start metal halide." I wonder how that differs

What they have is 600watt conversion bulbs. These are MH bulbs that run in any HPS set up. Conversion bulbs are made in all the standard HID wattage's and go both ways. There are HPS bulbs that run in any MH set up and like we just said MH bulbs that run in any HPS set up not just digital. I have no idea why people with one grow area use two different ballasts and bulbs when you can just get a conversion bulb and not have to do the ballast.

To save some confusion, most lumatek ballasts are dimmable but not all. They can only run the wattage that they are ment to, but you can dim them. They do run both hps/mh, you may not find a 600w mh, but there are both is 400w and 1000w and they do fine. I currently have the 400w not dimmable and it is silent, works both bulbs and gives me great results, like them so much, in the near future, I will be upgrading to the dual 600w dimable.
Mod Edit- No links to websites that sell the item under review!

Just incase people are looking for one, ebay usually has the cheapest prices, but here's a link to an actuall store that has the next cheapest prices [/url]

Sorry, I never knew that. I wont do it again, just thought it was relavant to the conversation. kind of a silly rule anyways, if people ask where I ordered any of my equipment, I'm just supposed to tell them...........out of luck, go find it yourself?

I kind of agree with it being a silly rule.

The rule specifically states "Do not link to any web page that sells the product under review!" The product(s) under review here are Lumatek ballasts. While I did not click the ebay link it would appear to be for 600 watt MH bulbs, which are not the products under review here.
