Do NOT go in to water them during the dark period. Doing so, unless your using a green light, will fuck with their photo-period and can cause them to hermaph out. Just water them during the light cycle.
Why do you want to switch from 24 to 18?? I feel it's best just to keep your mothers on the same light schedule and not fuck around with it, less stress over all. That being said you can do it and it should not make them flower.

If you turn a light on or put a light on them during their dark cycle, then yes, it will fuck up the dark cycle.
6 hours of darkness shouldn't be a critical amount to induce flowering, why are you switching it? Also, you said "switching it back": does that mean you switched from 18 to 24 and now want to make it 18 again? Because that I might advise against.
Does this mean that the Growery isn't worthless now?

NO black light, the only light that they can receive during their dark cycle and not have it effect them is green. Nothing else is acceptable.
