MH has the wrong spectrum for flowering. I don't know if anyone here has bothered trying. Get an HPS if you can.

MH can very well provide the correct spectrum to flower cannabis. Many growers around the world swear by the MH light and use it exclusively to great effect.
As I have never run a side by side comparison I cannot say for sure, but I believe there will be very slight, if any, difference in yield between a MH and a HPS light. Some of the best grows I have ever seen have been cultivated under MH.

What I have read says that HPS is best for flowering. I haven't read to the contrary.

You are absolutely correct, HPS is best for flowering, but that isn't to say MH is poor at it.

I hear ya. I have always assumed that MH yields compared to HPS yields are not near as good.

but I was also using a 250W, so it may have just been a little underpowered in general

It is much more likely that they came out scraggly due to lack of lumens than due to the fact that you used an HPS. I use hps to veg all the time and when I post the rest of my scrog pics, I'll show you my internodes; zero stretch. In reality I don't think 9/10 people will ever see a difference between HPS and MH.
