Helicopters?

How can you avoid / shield being picked up by the helicopters with infrared? Is there a type of thermal-insulation that I could use on the ceiling above my grow room?
Thanks,

Most hydro shops sell a type of mylar that is thermal resistant. Hydro huts and darkrooms are also thermal resistant.

Grow in a room that doesn't touch an outside wall. Or if that isn't possible, build a room inside the room... The dead air space outside the false room will provide huge insulating capabilities. Barring all other options, a layer of insulation will make a huge impact in heat escaping and therefore infrared detection.

Thanks,
It's called BlockIR.
NASA made some stuff that this company sells. You can buy it online or ebay.

I have a feeling Lopan flies in helicopters and wonders why no lights pop up.
But really everyone, I agree with nobodyimportant, that unless you have a greenhouse with strips and strips of HPS, they wont discern a single light from a common household one.
But I'd assume they wouldn't use an IR gun on your place, unless say.. you've already been charged for growing marijuana.
My two pennies.

IR guns are used from the back of a truck and you have to be suspect of doing something. IR used from planes and helicopters is done to find larger crops and it's used to find the waterlines that heat up in the daytime not the plants themselves. From a helicopter they look like spider webs with a plant at the end of each strand.

as long as you have plenty of insulation between your grow room and the outside of the house you're fine. IR guns can't see through you house they mere see the temp of the outer most part. Keep your grow room as close to the center of the house as possible.

you know what i did in english class? I came to class stoned out of my mind every day, i chugged vodka in the back of class, i put dead fish in the ceiling tiles. i put a gallon of old milk and orange juice in the file cabinet before winter vacation. i brought snakes in a tied up sweater and let them loose during class. i didnt go to school to learn, i went because i had to. i didnt care, and i didn't fucking listen to that stupid bitch. and i still don't fucking care. i tore the pages out of her books and burned them, and threw away all the books in the class, two books per day.

Thank you all for the responses! I did not expect to get so many.
No, I do not fly helicopters! hah. What got me worrying was an episode of DEA in which they used a helicopter, equiped with an IR camera, to find grow houses. When we were shown what the DEA was looking at, you could actually make out the blotches of heat inside homes (that is, I think the guy had maybe 4 lights, and you could see 4 blotches, all much hotter than anything else around).
My grow space is going to be in an attic (though a heavily modified one), and with tight space, creating a faux-ceiling is going to be difficult.
GreenThumb: BlockIR - where did you find this? I checked ebay and couldn't find any.
As for general insulation and ventilation, this is going to be plenty take care of.
Thanks again for all of the replies!
Oh, by the way, in the DEA episode, they did indeed have a specific neighborhood in mind, though not an individual house. Even so, they were able to pick out the grow house.

What kind of lighting will you be using? If you're growing in an attic, which is where all the heat in a house goes on its own, and then you insulate it in to hide the heat from possible helicopters, you're going to have a huge heat concern if you're using HID, especially since you're mentioning tight space. If you do go with that, you're probably going to need to set up an air conditioner.

Fluorescents, Metal Halides and High Pressure Sodiums - I am going to do this right. I have no doubt that heat will be my biggest concern... The attic has already two exhaust fans - I do not know what kind of CFM rating they have, but they are a start, and I can always add more. I plan on splitting the attic up into a few sections with drywall and then doing duct work to the vents, and adding carbon scrubbers inline to take care of the smell.
My seeds arrived today (white widow, baby!), though I am not planting them just yet - need to do more planning, measuring, etc. I am going to take pictures soon and I am also going to keep a thread to log my work.
I can't wait!
