Got myself a decent fan!

So I finally got myself a decent fan today. I refused to pay £60 at my local hydro for an RVK 125mm so was running a complete botch job involving PC fans and a couple of 6" clip on fans.
It was doing well keeping the temps at 70o night and 78/80o daytime. The problem comes when the ambient climbs by a few degrees. the box temps can come close to 90o at times. :S and this is in a cold winter.
Anyway, went round a few DIY shops and found this place what sells ELTA fans, namely the SM range http://www.eltafans.com/product_detail.php?ProductID=110
This fan is 5" diameter and about 4" in length. Fits snugly inside ducting and shifts a nice 53 litres/second (about 117 CFM), 43dBA and all for a lovely £24. Double insulated and has thermal overload protection. Bargain!!

Gotta have a good fan. That was the first thing I bought...I guess it was mainly for security reasons to move the air through a scrubber, but it was the first thing on my agenda.
Light came second. Supposedly you should actually see yield increases.

Nice find!I plan on getting light 1st then fans(intake, exaust, scrubber)then growing equipment.Im pretty patient so I wont even start till I get every last piece.Ill bge going for top shelf though.I have a bad habit of not being happy with my stuff unless its exactly what I want.I cant settle for 2nd best. But that just means Ill have to wait longer.Anticipation keeps me going though.

Yeaild increases with a good fan? I guess thats believable as they get a better quality of air as they grow.
I've calculated what I'm working with: 22ft3, 112cfm fan, Should replace the air inside 5 times per minute.

While we're on the subject of air, where is the optimal place for an air intake?
I used to have a hole in the bottom corner of the box, but found the floor of the box had a cold layer of air round the bottom, which isn't too good for the roots.
At the moment i have ducting bringing it up to canapy level and then being circulated by a clip on fan.
Just wondering what you guys have in your setups?

I like my intake to be as low as possible to take advantage of the cooler air at lower levels. Cool roots are fine unless they are freezing. Exhaust fans in my cabs are always on top.

I might have a go at dropping it down a little. See what difference it makes.
Woo... in 3 1/2 hours 12/12 kicks in! It's only a matter of time now!

Not sure I've got the room (or patience) for a sativa. We shall see though. Started experimenting with LST and a FIM. Got 3 growth tips on my first try and there's currently like 17 growth tips at canopy level. Only got 1 plant on the go ATM.
I definitely want to find some chocolope to smoke while im over there. I watched the Cannabis Cup 2007 and it was one of the featured buds. Sounded tasty.
I'm a lover of blue cheese myself. i love the sweet candy taste. I have been looking at a lot of seeds though. Wanted trainwreck as i've heard a lot about it. Or maybe a purple cross, purplewreck or something. Not sure if it's clone only though.

pineapple trainwreck is my all time favorite bud (i had this years before pineapple express ever came out). chocolope didnt take up as much time as i thought - some phenos took 8 weeks, some 10. it yielded pretty damn good too. i hear barneys cheese isnt the real UK cheese

Yeah, i had a little fiddle around to try to get more cool air in, but the temperatures still climba bit too high. It's gonna be a nightmare in the summer.
I'm thinking maybe making another air intake to cool things down. Is it normal to have more intakes than exhausts? but just have the exhaust fan bigger to keep the negative pressure?
People don't joke when they say 400W HPS run hot. I just never imagined they'd be this difficult to keep cool with a cool hood. I guess its the size of the space that you work in that makes a difference too.

I had a little look round and have seen recommendations for twice the size passive intake. eg 1 x 5" exhaust would have 2 x 5" intakes at the bottom.
There's definitely a negative pressure though so I think it's just going to be a case of dialling it in now.
The lights have just switched to being on through the night now after 24hr dark period. So we'll see what difference that makes to them.
Thank you for the help guys. Any other advice or experience is glady appreciated.
