I have much experience with growing sativas outdoors, however I've decided to try an indoor grow with some high CBD indica seeds.
Being my first indoor grow, I have made this setup to suit a single plant keeping costs as low as possible. The light is a 225 mixed blue/red LED panel I got from ebay and the total cost of this setup was less than $50.
After researching different reflective materials it seems as though matte white is better to use than aluminum foil so I decided to make my grow box out of styrofoam.
Although smell is not an issue, I have incorperated a ventilation system using an old computer fan and a high performance toilet roll.
Here is a quick video of the completed setup:
The inside of the box is 21 inches high, 13.5 inches wide and 13.5 inches deep.
This grow is purely for experience and learning purposes, not so much for best yeilds/product.
At this point I have 3 main questions.
1. How far should the light be from the plant? Currently the distance is about 13 inches.
2. How long should the light/fan be on during the veg stage? At the moment I am doing 13 hours.
3. What sort of nutrients should I use?
4. Can any experienced indoor growers comment on the rate of growth as shown in the grow log below? I'm just a little worried that my cheap grow light mught be insufficient.
I realize that this is a kind of half arsed setup but any information or advice would be much appreciated!!
The learning curve is rather high the first time you grow cannabis.
1,4 Your LED light is fine for the vegetation stage but not for flowering. The distance to your plants depends on the amount of heat the LED lights make. But six inches would be better for your plants.
2,4 Your light schedule for veg should be 18/6 and then reduce it to 12/12 when flowering. One of the reasons your plants are not growing faster is due to less light of your cycle of 13/11.
3 I use GH nutrients they come with instructions for different methods of growing cannabis depending what system you use.
Your grow box needs to be in a light proof area because the Styrofoam is translucent and Indica cannabis needs 12 hours of total darkness to flower, light leaks will delay flowering and or cause hermaphrodites.
FYI You should add extra lighting when flowering, You will need to increase the inlet of your air system to twice the size of the exit fan. More like the size of a two liter pop bottle rather then a toilet paper roll.
BTW its only when you start to flower that smell will become an issue.
