 Can I swap out a HPS for a MH bulb?

Hey there, I'm learning all that I can so forgive the noob question. Gonna try a 4x4 growtent and I think I need a 1000 watt HPS. I found the ballast I want in Yield Lab's 1000 watt HPS package. [Does anyone trust in Ipower or hydrofarm's low end 1000k model?]
The question is for vegging will I need a 1000 watt MH bulb or can I veg with a 1000 watt HPS bulb that has been dimmed down on the Ballast?
Is a 1000w MH bulb interchangeable with the 1000w HPS bulb?
Are converter bulbs worth it or do they burn out twice as fast? If one half of them burns out is the whole bulb shot?

They have MH bulbs that run in HPS ballasts called conversion bulbs. They also have HPS that run in MH ballasts also.

unless youre plants are autos the plants are photo sensitive and will start to flower when you switch to less hours of light. like when you go from 18 to 12 a day.
yes you can use MH in place of HPS the only diff is light spectrum. eballasts can handle both hps and MH bulbs.
yes if any part of the bulb goes out the whole bulb does so it doesnt catch fire.

A lot of people swear by MH. I am a believer of it because I used MH for veg on some sick plants attacked by mold under a t5, and hours after receiving MH spectrum they noticably bounced back. I got very bushy and healthy plants from MH it's a good spectrum for veg.
But your plants look at time under light rather than kind of light used. So yes, you can use 1000W HPS for both stages, as long as your time settings make sense to the plant. You don't have to dim it down to anything if your temps are nice (if things get too hot in my room thats when I dial it back to 400/600 until things cool off) running 1000W HPS 18/6 the whole time will just make your plants more beastly in veg. Plus it saves you money on however many X lights you are running you only need to buy 1 bulb at a time

I have a convertable fixture that allows both style bulbs to be used by just the flip of a switch. I don't think I'd feel safe leaving the house with the wrong bulb in it. My 2 cents if it matters.

thats for sure... scarey shit... 
that shot sparks about 3' from the ballast.

Ya most new digital ballasts u can run both hps and mh. Ur good with just hps but to save bulb I guess can run mh for Veg. Peaxe
