I've never done it personally, but, if you have the ability to do so it is a viable option.

well
to prevent sewer gases from entering your home from your toilet there is a trap
basically it's a horse shoe shaped piece of pvc or whatever it is they use and it's filled with water and the gases don't penetrate that.
I don't think you'll have something like this ...

Why not? If you're going through the trouble of routing your exhaust into public sewer systems, I would assume you're at least smart enough to figure out a one-way flow valve

A one way valve should not be hard to make for this.
The vent pipe might let oder out but a off/on valve is easy to install
