Lighting?

So I have some plants growing under a indoor reflector spotlight with tin foil around all the plants....they are growing in potting soil with fertilizer mix to water every 3-4 days and straight water everyday.
The plants are about 4 inches tall, what type of bulb is best to buy?
and I have them growing in paper cups. How long until I shall transplant them?

1.) don't water your plants every day, they don't need it. 2.) seedlings don't require fertilizer 3.) tin foil creates hot spots and is a poor reflector, get pebbled aluminum, mylar, or flat white paint for reflection 4.) depends on your money, i wouldn't use anything less then an HPS but that's me. 5.) at 4 inches tall those plants should have been transplanted already.

Why not transplant them now? Anyways, its hard to say if they'll be okay without knowing which light you are using now.

Honestly? No, cups provide very little root space. Cannabis is an aggressive grower, if properly taken care of they will become rootbound in those little cups most likely by then. If you've had them in the cups for a few weeks already, you will definitely need to find something bigger for them.

is that an incandescent light? For that many plants, if that's the only light you're using, it's not enough. Judging from the tremendous amount of stretch your seedlings are showing, they're not getting enough (or the right kind) of light.

at minimum you should get a CFL, you can buy them at any retail store.
And yes, stretching like that is a bad thing.

The plants are that tall before they have any leaves because they are stretching like crazy to find light. You can't use any old light bulb because plants only use certain sections of the light spectrum. The light you are using isn't giving them much of any of what they need. The reason it isn't good to let them stretch like that as seedlings is because it might be more difficult for that section to develop into a sturdy, wide, main stalk that will be capable of supporting the plant as it matures and also of being able to deliver through it enough water and nutrients.

For your situation, it'd be best to go get at least one CFL to replace that lamp you have now. The package will list the amount of lumens the bulb produces; obviously the more the better, but get at least 2000 lumens. Don't look at any CFL underneath 20 watts, really (the actual wattage, not the incadescent replacement conversion that is listed). Beyond that, you'll need to look at the color temperature of the bulb if it is listed, or at very least the description of the quality of light. The daylight, or bulbs with a color temperature of around 6500k, will be the ones that provide your plants with the light spectrum your plants most need right now. Its best to position the CFL's above the plants horizontally and about three inches away.
It'd be a good idea to wait a couple weeks after making these changes before you take them outside, since you'll want to have them off to a great start before taking them out there. As already mentioned, you need to transplant them, and, when you do, bury those long ass stems underneath the soil. As long as you keep the right intensity of light at the right spectrum, you won't have that problem again.

yes, you can always bury the stem to help strengthen the plant when you transplant.

well, if you turn off the light you'll be forcing them to flower which is not good at this stage. A regular 50 watt bulb won't do shit, CFL lights cost like 10 bucks for a 3 pack or so. I don't know why you need to wait, they're not expensive.
