Another herm?
    #737478 - 06/24/14 01:33 PM (10 years, 5 months ago)

So after I lucked out with my last plant that hermied on me (cut it down before it threw any pollen) I just noticed this today on a white widow. Are these the beginnings of nanners? If so I dont know what the hell is going on. I have no light leaks, temp never goes up past 84, and I havent changed anything in my feeding/watering routine.

Will insufficient root space cause a plant to herm? This plant is 16" tall, almost all bud growing in a dixie cup.

I could be mistaken but I think any type of stress can cause herms, so I'd say that is a definite possibility.

Interested in hearing an expert opinion on it too...

Yeah that's true, I just cant figure out how/why they're stressed. Never had any problems until just recently and I haven't changed anything in my routine or their conditions.

Those are definitely nanners.  Have you been in there when the lights are off to double check for light leaks?  You could just have some strains with a propensity for hermie traits.

Root space usually won't cause that, from my experience.

Yes I have. Cant even see my own hand in front of my face. This one is a clone from another white widow that grew fine in the same conditions. Can pollen from one herm (this one) cause another plant to nanner? Or would it just make it produce seeds? This widow was right next to my Sannie Jack that hermied.

That would only cause it to pollinate and form seeds.

If the mother was fine then it wouldn't be genetics would it?

Well a mother isn't flowered.  So I don't see what the correlation is.  And if you did flower it and it didn't hermie, it could have just been luck.  I would say either way it's a genetic thing.  It obviously has some sort I'd predispostion to throw nanners

Yeah I flowered its mom...I took 4 clones before I put her in flower and she turned out great. Guess I'll find out with the other clones, they're a few weeks behind. Im probably messing something up, its kind of a weird coincidence for two different strains to herm within a week of each other...likely my fault.

Even if you're causing them to herm, you don't want to keep those genetics around.  You want a strong line that isn't easily prone to this.

I've seen lack of root space cause the plants to flower while in veg phase. This was very common with a strain called Mikado.

I've done dixie cups both hydro and dirt and never saw it turn a strain hermime.

I just had to trash a couple of my favorite strains because they always threw out nanners late flower. It was never an issue until I started my perpetual.

If its jist that strain doing it get rid of it and save your self the hassle. If its multiple strains you need to find out what's stressing them out.

Makes sense. I dont really care about the widow, its good bud but nothing to be upset over. The Sannie's Jack though would be a huge disappointment...probably the best sativa Ive ever had. Could it just be a problem with one particular phenotype? I have 3 more seeds of the Sannie's, I'm hoping the other ones will be more stable.

What Hawk said is dead right buuuuut if your having the problem over multiple strains then you either have very bad luck this time around (and it does happen) or you need to take a look at your methods.

Two strains so far, flowering together. I dont know what else to check...no light leaks, room never goes over 84, plants show no signs of deficiencies, water/nutes always ph'ed to 6.5 for soil and 5.9 for coco...

Now that I think about it I do recall maybe a month back I forgot to zip up my veg tent all the way and there was a little bit of light shooting out for a few hours of their dark period...could that one instance have caused it? If so I would think they would have shot out nanners way before now.

My girl just reminded me about something else too...

A couple weeks ago we had a bad storm in the middle of the night and our power went out for awhile...it was during their lights off time anyway but I forgot to update the timer and their lights on was 45 minutes late.

I didnt really think anything of it, could something as little as that stress them out enough to herm?

If they are super sensitive, possibly.  But most strains aren't that sensitive.
