Why is this happening, and is it caused by a deficiency in something?

Sorry, didn't realize the procedure:
Hydro Growers: 1. Growing from seed. 2. Week and a half old. 3. 4 inches in height. 4. I'm using jiffy cube into pot of coco coir. 5. Not using nutrients yet. 7. Ph of Tap water is 7.0 10. Stays the same. 13. Flourescent T5's 55 watts. 14. Plants are a cm away. 15. 5"x1" 16. Room temperature and 40% humidity. 17. No insects. 18. Not much experience growing.

Normally I would attribute that to slightly too high of nutrients. But since you aren't using any, my bet is heat from the light. Raise it up a few cm from them and see what happens.

I would like to add that I think they're likely ready for light nutrients at this point. As soon as they have some real leaves they're usually ready, since coco has literally no nutrition in it as a standalone.

I agree with this since he's got T5's a cm away (or so he claims). T5's run way hotter than T8's-12's.
To make sure his tap water isn't high in dissolved solids knowing the ppm's of his tap water is a good idea before he starts feeding.
