has anybody ever trimmed clone roots before planting?
    #680595 - 08/05/13 11:38 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

ok was wondering.. has anybody ever trimmed clone roots before? was wondering because one of my buddies was asking me cause he has 8 clones going and 3 of them has roots growing really fast and are really long ..were the rest of them are not any were near those top 3.

So wanted to know can the clone that have really long roots can they be trimmed so the clones with shorter roots has a chance to catch up instead of just planting them and see thoese clones waste a week or two playing root catch up and not grow.

Sure, you can.  Just sterilize the cutting instrument first.

well I asked it because my buddies clones... has 9 all together 3 of them have huge root .. and the other 6 are maybe 1/10 of the root size..so he was figuring to trim the 3 with big roots so the other 6 will have a chance to catch up .. so he can plant all 9 at the same time and the 6 with little roots wont spend 1-2 weeks just growing roots while the 3 clones with big roots grow and get a lot huger as in plant size.. he wants to try to keep them all on the the same grow speed ... because he only has one grow tent and want and cant keep some plants in flower and some in veg.. its either one or the other so he want to make sure when he start flowering that wont have 6 plants that are half a foot or two shorter and have less yield because he had 3 plants a lot taller and had to start flowering cause he would have no room for them if he waits any longer.

Hows the overall size of the plant itself? Roots will make do where you put them and pots don't take up too much space compared to the foliage.

I wouldn't cut them if it were me. I've pulled clones from a tray with roots stuck like Velcro to one another and I just separate them when they get planted.

Ive taken a clone out of a Dixie cup and completely cut its root ball down to nothing to fit in a 2-3 inch plastic pot. it still thrived and did fine
