when to water rockwool
    #673652 - 06/05/13 06:49 PM (11 years, 5 months ago)

How can i tell when to water the rockwool cubes? should i wait till their almost completely dry ti the touch? They're the 2.5 inch cubes and dry on the tops right now, moist when i press my finger in a little.

It depends if theyre in a dome or not but if theyre moist dont water em...let em dry out a lil but not to the point of having wilted plants.

If you have em in a dome you can usually just spray em and thatll be enough. Its easy to over do it.

If you water them too often without letting the top dry a bit you can get algae...happens to me all the time but never really causes a problem.

Time to put them into your final medium.  Whether that's would or hydro or whatever.  The leaves are turning because the plants are sucking nutrients out of the leaves to develop the roots.  Once roots are showing through you can transplant.

Never apply nutrients to rooting clones.  Just ph'd water.

Well no.  Its usually every other.  And less is always better, much easier to ramp up the feeding than to try and fix an overfed plant.

No, and mainly because from my understanding, peyote takes something like 7 years to produce buttons.

Yeah it takes forever. It grows around here, used to munch it all the time in high school.

Some people find em and pot em up and collect em as souveneirs but they take yearssss to produce buttons.

And when we munched em we would eat a shitload of buttons cuz they were like a dollar a piece. A lot of people think just a few bites and youre trippin balls but its far from that.

If youre growing it to eat it and trip youre gonna need a lot of cacti cuttings and a lot of years.

One of my biggest regret is not potting one up years ago when i got them a lot.

Seems like the best way to go about it is to find wild patches, not that I've done that, but my friends who use them in ceremonies do it.

They're native american and have yearly traditional ceremonies.  They head down south and harvest a crap load of them, then bring them back up.  I was invited once to participate and it was just absolutely incredible.

Yeah weve hunted em before but its been drying up over the years. One of the 3 licensed dealers in the US lives like an hour away. Hes got a huge sign in his front yard PEYOTE FOR SALE so we just go there.

Its become so scarce that theyre really not liking people hunting for it...its a bunch of kids that just wanna get high and unlike shrooms, they dont understand how to harvest just the top butons to allow the bottom ones to continue to grow. They just take it all and thats how its becoming endangered.

The dude that sells is an old school indian and they take that shit real personally. He shouldnt even sell to us but my friend is all spiritual and convinced the dude we were using it for spiritual reasons. Only spoke to him in spanish.

Badass experiences.

Has anyone ever had dark green spots randomly appear  on the top of rockwool cubes? is it mold or algae? And  when transplanting from a 2.5 inch cube to a hugo 6inch block i just soaked the 6inch then put the dry rooted 2.5inch into the hugo, was i supposed to water after transplanting too?

He said hes transferring em to hugos so yeah hes in hydro...those are 6" cubes

Doesnt say what kind of system though...are you hand watering? Sounds like overwater and youre getting algae.

Rockwools cool but the watering times can vary greatly. If youre doing drip you can water it like 3 times a day, but you can also do ebb n flo and it takes a few days between watering.

Grodan makes some little pamphlets specifically for how to water their different products. Ask your hydro store.

Are you planning on transferring to slabs or will you be flowering in the hugos?

And no do not water water the rockwool for like 3 days after transplanting.

You shouldve pre soaked it in some phd water to condition it for like 30 min though

i am hand watering and pre soaked them in light nutrient ph water before transplanting. im probably gunna get the slabs cuz you can fit two hugos on one if it gets too root bound ill just stack it on another slab
