you do not need hydroton, the neoprene collars will hold it in place along with the roots.

If your converting to an aeroflow, I would recommend the netted pots. At one point the plants might get just a little too large for the collars. I would imagine you may have problems with the plants falling down and what not. It seems like netted cups would provide the most stability. That's just what I think may happen, I'm not experienced with aeroflows.

I totally just realized I didnt mean to say " place along with roots." I mean't use the pot and collars but you dont need hydroton.

One more question though, is there a reason I should remove the bottom of the netted pot or leave it intact?
Leave it intact. You remove the bottom of the cup for a cloner, so that the roots DO NOT get entangled, but if your vegging, I rekon it would be best to let the roots get entangled.
