Shulgin is one of my brothers inspirations, since he is a chem nerd and is going to major in it in college, and probably grad school. So a year or two ago when his new book came out I got in touch with his daughter and paypal'd her some money to send my brother a copy of the book made out to my brother by shulgin himself. It's signed and has a few little words on encouragement. I thought that was super cool, and I had no problem donating money in exchange for it. The guy did a lot of great work that people are continuing to enjoy to this day.

Those both were first synthetized by other folks (according to a quick wikipedia session that is). He did, however, create some psycedelics from scratch. Like DOM and 2C-7-2.
