These are not inexpensive so a word on warranty.
12 months and the two magnum units are still performing flawlessly, if not they would have to be freighted back to the company for warranty repair.
These units were angled in with a pair of 400 watt CMHs between them, testing really high intensity on young plants.
The HGL units are eight pairs of light engines per unit. Three pairs out of forty have failed the first year. The remaining six pairs per unit continue to operate. The company requires a picture of the unit with the failed bulbs emailed to them. They send replacements priority mail and do not want the dead ones returned. Wow.
For growing, the magnums are 30% blue, MJ likes less, poppies like it fine. The beam angle measure out to a 12 degree spotlight with an effective envelope of three to six feet. Closer does not allow adequate mixing of light. This is too distant for any but Sea of Green style grows.
The HGLs are 10% blue and MJ likes this much better, poppies less so. The beam measures at 57 degrees, effective from two feet to four feet, allowing for growth of the plants.
The HGLs are covering ten square feet each with 448 watts output per each. The magnums are covering two square feet each with 357 watts outper per each.
The mix of spectrum and coverage puts the HGLs at almost 20% more growth per watt on a mostly sativa strain. Indica had less difference in growth between the two, but the narrow beam of the magnum makes it more difficult to use efficiently.
