So I was checking out carbon filter prices on ye olde eBay. And a lot of posts said filter muffler. I got to thinking, can the filter can be put at the end of the ducting and still be effective? All air would still pass through the carbon. My fan is filterless at the moment and the exposed ducting is definitely louder. The fan doesn't vibrate, its just the amount of air going through is too much.

I feel your noise. Or hear it in this case. A muffler goes at the exhaust end. To reduce exhaust out put IMO. Those inline fans do put out a sound. Like a jet engine. ICMAG has one(muffler) and I'm sure I did post on my.
