Controlling temperature. What am I doing wrong?

I have a 1000 watter in a 4x4x6.5 ft tent. 8in cooltube reflector 6"in 270cfm Can fan cooling the light 8"in high velocity fan (rated at 460 but I doubt it) is the exhaust Passive intake is on the opposite side of the tent, at the bottom
The temps vary from 85-90F. I already see a bunch of burn marks. So what am I doing wrong here? Is an AC usually required when using 1000 watters? My 600watt mh is in a 3x4 in the same room, and it never goes over 80. Anything I can try?

A/C is the key. You have 1000watts of light in a VERY small area. Even with venting the light your going to have a lot of heat.

I see. So should I get a stand up unit and keep it by the intake? Or keep it in the tent?
No stores sell ACs this time of year, anyone know a good place to look online?

Craigslist is where I would look. Stand up unit should be in the tent. Then just tie in the exhaust from it into the existing exhaust.

Thanks a lot and ***** to you for answering questions that noone else here can:) (not just this thread either)
I want to try one thing before buying the AC, can you just let me know if im whasting my time?
Ok so the idea is attaching a duct to the intake (from the window). I know this will probably decrease the exhaust fan's power, but by how much? Would this even work?

Whats with the *******???
Yeah that could work. I'd def. give it a shot. You can also do that for the intake on your light.

Stand up units can be expensive. I need to look into getting one this summer.
Right now I run 3000W with an intake from the frozen outside (well kind of thawed right now) with an 8" HO Can fan, something like 750cfm. My temps stay around 81F when it's below 32F outside (when it was like 10F my temps were around 77F). Today was close to 50F and my temps got up to 85F.
One thing you should do is check all seams in your ducting and make sure you don't have air leaks(can't remember if that spelling is the vegetable...). I was gaining about 2-3F because of drafty reflectors and loose tape. Listen for moving air and see if you can block it with your hand. If so, put some tape there and seal it up.

That's fucking awesome man. But next time you should have in air entering the top of the tent.

With the AC's thermometer on the unit itself and the cold air being pumped into your grow room, I'm guessing the unit stayed on most of the time, or what? How did that work out?

ya, it was pretty much on all the time. even with running the lights at night, it still got pretty hot in there. the grow room is a sectioned off area of our garage, so it can get pretty hot/cold depending on the season. the grow room has undergone a pretty extensive overhaul since that photo was taken though. replaced the plastic with insulated 2x4 walls. seems to help a great deal, even with the exhaust running 24/7. and if i opt to use the ac again this summer, i will have it come in the top. thanks for the advice

a 1000w light in a 4ft tent is your problem. I use one in a 5ft tent, its air cooled and the temps still can hit 31c(88f) if its warm outside. you should have gone with a 600w, even then you'll still need it aircooled.

So I did it but I will most likely do the window ac thing cause the temps stay at 82-84 anyway. the problem is that the ducting is really long. I just had to do something for now..
Also, theres negative pressure to the point that the tent is "shrinking". Is this bad for the plants?

Ok so first of all, it turns out the tent is 4.5ft x 4.5ft. I just found out -_- Either way, I gotta disagree. I've been told by some of the most trusted people that 4x4 is optimal for a 1000watter. I mean, even the tent kits come w/ 1000watters.. I'm 99.999% sure that if my veg tent wasnt in the same room, I wouldnt need anything except the fans I have now.
Oh btw, my veg "tent" (mylar diy) is 3x4 w a 600watter being cooled by an industrial fan

I put a small fan in the duct to help w/ airflow. As u could see, the duct is 8ft long

ya well what people "say" online is a joke unless they can back it up. i will admit its only my 2nd time growing in a tent, for the last o say 20 years i grew in large rooms with lots of 1000w ers'. and obviously your temps are WAY too high right now, so who u think is right? i use a 1000w in my 5x5x7 tent and if it wasn't winter i would have a heat prob, unless i use a AC unit or, as i'm doing now, drawing in air thats 5c or colder to keep it cool.
but believe who you like...

Magash said that a while back. I wouldnt say "some of the most trusted people" if it was just some random peope. Im saying that the room that the tent is inside of stays at around 80 because there is no ac and 2 grow lights are in the room.

I could be stoned and missing something...
But are you just venting the hot air into the room outside the tents?
You might get lower temps if you turn things around and vent the hot air out the window (carbon filter as needed, of course) and draw cool air from the opposite side of the room, if possible. Hard to say without looking at the whole room and surrounding... err, rooms and stuff.

Yep thats what im doing. The air in the room is being vented out the windowtho. I know it would be better to vent directly outside but I havent compleatly decided on the setup yet...i got 3 1000watters+bulbs+cooltubes just sitting there <.< im considering building a 4x8 and using 2000 watts to flower. Basically the main problem atm is that the flowering tent is on the opposite side from the only window in the room.
Im just worried about my neighbours seeing some wierd sht sticking out my window lol.. Is there any way to hide it?
