led grow light

Well, I'm convinced that if i invest a good 2-300$ on1 of these it would be a better way to go about doin this whole ordeal. Will the Led be a lot more energy efficient? Also I've heard they produce a lot of heat, would it be possible to build a grow box with the light snug tight into the top and sealed off, that way the air from the grow box isnt super hot and i can sent it out the window or something?
Help please!

LED's don't produce near as much heat as cfl's or HID's.
You'll want to be able to raise and lower your light to keep it as close as possible to the tops of your plants, so I wouldn't mount it to the top of the box.. I keep mine about 2 to 6 inches off the tops of the plants.

From what I have read regarding LED's, they are not really worth doing unless you are prepared to spend an obscene amount of money. Obscene IMO is over 500. I've seen good ones going for over a grand. The cheap ones are only good for clones I have read.
Then there are some grow logs with ppl doing well with them.
GL with the grow, if I were you I would make sure to research a product before buying it.

I got a 90w ufo and decided that it wasn't enough light to flower more than 1 plant... So I got a 400w hps and use the 90 watt for veg... they work well for veg but if you want good buds you need a really pricey led...

Really? Have you grown with LEDs? I have, take a look. That's a nice looking crop, to be grown under taillights.

Next you're gonna say that you can't use CFL's to get a decent harvest either, right?

LED lights are the future of grow lights. They produce far less heat and are far more energy efficient. The bulbs also last a ton longer. At this point the price is the only thing holding them back... For a really nice yield you need a pretty powerful LED which at this point in the game is very pricey. When the prices go down I'm sure alot of people are going to be changing over. I have seen many really nice grows using led. My 90w led can veg many plants just fine vs using my 400w MH saving cash on electricity and producing far less heat.

STONETH: what sort of LED panel did you use?
those 180 watt or 125 watt blackstar UFO type LEDs look like they are decent for the price ~130 bucks same as the 90watt UFO.
like said before prob decent for seedlings and veg but unless you have alot of them or only 1 plant not really worth it. might be good as a supplement side light aswell. i wonder how it would work shinning from the bottom up?? might be an interesting experiment and i dont think it would confuse the plant very much because you have a high power light from above still.

That was a 120 watt bridgelux, if I remember correctly. One watt chip set. I test many led units for a local manufacture. Some are fair, most are over priced, and many more are shitty all together. Pretty much every unit I've seen lies about the square foot coverage.
The blackstar is a nice unit. The higher the chip set is the better the unit will preform in my opinion. Penetration is key.
The most rewarding grows I've done with LEDs is when running along side of a HPS as a spectrum booster.

how did you have the LED set up with the HPS? just on one side? did it really kick it up?

Yeah I just hung one on each side of the HPS hood.
Seen a increase in thich, and resin production, as well as a more rapid grow rate. There was some bleaching in the colas, but that doesn't seem to hurt the final product.
